Hadli Barrera, Casey Crofts earn CVMG Prep Player of the Week honors for Sept. 25-30 – Cache Valley Daily

LEFT – Mountain Crest girls soccer forward Hadli Barrera | RIGHT – Mountain Crest football quarterback Casey Crofts Two athletes from Mountain Crest High School have been named this week’s boys and girls Cache Valley Media Group Prep Players of the Week, presented by McDonalds. Hadli Barrera, a forward on MC’s girls soccer team, is the girls player of the week with Casey Crofts, quarterback of the Mustangs’ football team being named the boys player of the week. Barrera led Mountain Crest to a 2-0 week to wrap up the regular season. She recorded two second-half goals in the Mustangs’ 2-1 win over Sky View and then scored on of her team’s goals in a 2-0 win over Bear River. Those two wins clinched second place in Region 11 for Mountain Crest which will begin its playoff run on Thursday with a home match against Hurricane. Crofts completed 18 of 26 passes for a career-high 360 yards and a career-high tying three passing touchdowns. He also ran the ball five times for 12 yards. Kennedy Perales, Brevin Egbert earn CVMG Prep Player of the Week honors for Sept. 18-23 – Cache Valley Daily

LEFT – Logan girls soccer sophomore goalkeeper Kennedy Perales | RIGHT – Sky View football senior running back Brevin Egbert Kennedy Perales of Logan High School and Brevin Egbert of Sky View High School have been named this week’s boys and girls Cache Valley Media Group Prep Players of the Week, presented by McDonalds. Perales, the goalkeeper for the Grizzlies girls soccer team, is the girls player of the week while Egbert, the Bobcats’ running back, is the boys player of the week. Oddly enough, both players earned their accolades by helping their team to wins against the other player’s school. Perales helped Logan to a win over Sky View, a game that ended in a penalty shootout. The two sides were tied 0-0 through the entirety of regulation and overtime, with Perales keeping the clean sheet through the 100 total minutes. In the shootout, Perales made one save and saw one miss from Sky View with Logan winning in PKs 4-1. Egbert, now a three-time winner of the boys prep player of the week, dominated in Sky View’s 69-18 over Logan. Two Sky View athletes earned this week’s boys and girls Cache Valley Media Group Girls Prep Players of the Week, Presented by McDonalds. Brynnlee Hart of the Bobcats volleyball team is the girls player of the week and Bryton Williams of the football squad is the boys player of the week. Hart led Sky View as the only Region 11 team to go 2-0 last week with big wins over Ridgeline and Green Canyon. She averaged nearly 10 assists per set along with nearly three digs per set. Hart also had three service aces in the Bobcats’ win over the Riverhawks. Williams played a critical role in Sky View’s thrilling 35-34 victory over Bear River in the Bobcats’ homecoming game on Friday. The senior caught a season-high 11 passes for a career-high 190 yards along with a pair of touchdowns. Megan Nielsen, Will DeKorver earn CVMG Prep Player of the Week honors for Sept. 4-9 – Cache Valley Daily

A pair of Mountain Crest athletes were named the Cache Valley Media Group Girls Prep Players of the Week, Presented by McDonalds. Megan Nielsen of the Mustangs girls soccer team earned the girls player of the week honor with Will DeKorver of the football team earning boys player of the week. Nielsen played a major role in Mountain Crest’s 7-0 victory over Bear River to help the Mustangs remain in the three-way tie atop the Region 11 girls soccer standings. She didn’t score a goal but assisted on five of her teammates goals. DeKorver helped the Mustangs to a 14-10 upset road victory over Green Canyon, the formerly No. 1 ranked team in the football RPI. He caught seven passes for a season-high 141 yards and a touchdown against the top defense in 4A and one of the top defenses in the state overall. LEFT – Mountain Crest girls soccer senior Addy Sofonia | RIGHT – Sky View football running back Brevin Egbert LOGAN — For the week of Aug. 28 to Sept. 2, Mountain Crest girls soccer senior Addy Sofonia was named the Cache Valley Media Group Girls Prep Player of the Week while Sky View football running back Brevin Egbert earned Boys Prep Player of the Week, both awards presented by McDonalds. Sofonia recorded three goals in the week, all three as part of a hat trick she scored against Sky View in the Mustangs’ 4-1 victory over the Bobcats. The win advanced MC to 3-1 in Region 11 play, tied with Green Canyon and Ridgeline for first-place in the tightly contested region. Egbert tallied 208 scrimmage yards in Sky View’s 35-7 win over Fremont on Friday. He ran for 185 yards on 21 carries and caught two passes for 23 yards. He also scored three touchdowns, all on the ground. Green Canyon ranked first in inaugural 4A football RPI release of 2023; Ridgeline 2nd and Sky View 4th – Cache Valley Daily

The first RPI rankings from the Utah High School Activities Association were released this week after 4 weeks of action throughout the state, and three undefeated Region 11 teams found themselves within the top four in 4A with Box Elder ranked 1st in 5A. The Green Canyon Wolves (4-0, 0-0) have quickly established themselves as the top defensive team in 4A and the opening RPI rankings list the Wolves as the top team overall. Undefeated Green Canyon has given up only 25 total points through four games to 5A Hunter (3-1, ranked #5), 4A Stansbury (2-2, ranked #8), 5A Highland (2-2, ranked #15) and 3A Morgan (1-3, ranked #5). The Ridgeline Riverhawks (4-0, 0-0) come in 2nd in the inaugural rankings with a solid approach of good offense and solid defense. Through their first four games, the Riverhawks have defeated 5A Bonneville (2-2, ranked #10), 6A Riverton (0-3, ranked #12), 4A Stansbury (2-2, ranked #8) and 5A Cedar Valley (2-2, ranked #14). Ranked 4th, the Sky View Bobcats (4-0, 0-0) have overwhelmed their opponents with elite offense.
