How the new Pac-12 and Mountain West media deals stack up to each other | Sports

After a long wait, the Mountain West has finally nailed down its next media rights deal, securing an agreement with CBS, Fox Sports and the CW to broadcast around 150 regular season and postseason events each year. The MW shares many of the same partners as the Pac-12, which finalized its own media rights deal with CBS, The CW, and USA Network back in November. The two conferences will share both geographical and TV/digital space in the coming years. They’ll also be sharing a courtroom for much of that time as the two sides continue to fight over roughly $150 million in exit fees and other money owed by the Pac-12 and future members based on their impending departure from the Mountain West. Since five of the future Pac-12 schools left the Mountain West for the new league, it’s worth comparing the two and seeing if the move, and potentially $150 million price tag, was ultimately worth it. Utah State track & field impresses home crowd at Roman Ruiz Speed and Power Invitational | Sports

LOGAN, Utah — Utah State track & field claimed nine individual and relay titles, 23 podium finishes and six performances ranking in the top 10 all-time at the USU-hosted Roman Ruiz Speed and Power Invitational at the George Nelson Fieldhouse and the UW Invitational in Seattle, Washington, on Saturday. Aggie athletes put together a string of outstanding performances across all events along the 60-meter straightaway, winning two titles and setting five top-10 times. In the women’s 60-meter hurdles, senior Krysthina Vlahovic and junior Claire Petersen bested the field with respective times of 8.44 and 8.51. Vlahovic shaved a hundredth of a second off her previous personal best, which ranks third in school history. Petersen ran her fifth personal-best time of the season to move from seventh to fourth in USU history in the event. On the men’s side, senior Javin Richards finished third in the 60-meter hurdles final and moved into ninth in school history with his final time of 8.09. Richards, who earlier clocked in at 8.11 in the semis to initially break into the top-10, earned his fifth career entry into the Aggie record book. Utah State earns hard-nosed defensive win over San Diego State | Sports

LOGAN — Utah State rallied and pulled away from San Diego State late in the second half to earn one of its most tough-minded victories of the Jerrod Calhoun era. The Aggies trailed by 11 in the first half and by seven in the middle of the second, but pulled off a 71-66 victory over the first-place team in the Mountain West. There were a lot of things that didn’t go well for the Aggies, but they overcame them all — 18 turnovers, just 20 points combined from MJ Collins (12 points, on 3-of-14 shooting) and Mason Falslev (eight points on 3-for-7 shooting), a 3-point percentage of 23.1 and free throw perentage of 56.5. “Really want to shout out our players,” Calhoun said. “To win this game, as ugly as we played offensively, I don’t know if I’ve ever been a part of that. Where your two best players went 6 of 21. Aggies post another historic win in 32-point rout of Wyoming | Sports

LOGAN — The first 120 seconds of the Wednesday evening meeting in the Dee Glen Smith Spectrum between Utah State and Wyoming were competitve. After that, the Aggies rolled and concluded the night with a 94-62 victory over the Cowboys. It set a new record for the USU-Wyoming series for most points scored by either team and largest margin of victory in the nearly 70 years and 46 games in which the two teams have faced each other. Utah State gave up a couple early buckets to Wyoming as the Cowboys quickly went to their very solid pick-and-roll attack. Leland Walker snaked into the paint for a two-pointer to start things out and then Khaden Bennett hit a pocket pass to Gavin Gores for another easy two. Utah State Athletics launches Show Me initiative, targeting fundraising and community engagement | Sports

Utah State University’s athletics department announced its latest initiative aimed at moving the Aggies into the modern era of collegiate sports. Titled as the Show Me Initiative, it sets new targets for both fundraising and community engagement which will help Utah State stand up for itself in a time where budgets for college athletics departments around the country are ballooning. It targets goals in season ticket sales and number of sponsorships for the athletics department in addition to goals surrounding fundraising and membership in its Blue A Society and Big Blue Club.
