Utah State is set for a rematch with the Boise State Broncos. Circumstances are somewhat similar to when the Aggies and Broncos last met, which ended in a historic USU win, 93-68. Utah State was on a six-game winning streak then and is on a seven-game streak currently. Boise State was coming off a tough loss to Grand Canyon last time and ahead of this game the Broncos lost in overtime to UNLV.
Despite all the similarities, there are plenty of ways that these teams have changed that could make for a much different, much more interesting game this time around.
This is also a chance to go down memory lane on one of the biggest shots in Utah State basketball history. Ian Martinez’s four-point play that took the Aggies from down 79-77 to up 81-79, the margin they ended up winning by on Jan. 11, 2025.

Availability Report
The following is drawn from the official availability reports posted by the Mountain West. Per-game stats, if applicable, are included in parenthesis.
UTAH STATE
BOISE STATE
No major injuries for either side. Julian Bowie has appeared in just eight games, averaging 5.8 minutes in those contests and with pittance of statistical production to his name this year. Both sides are essentially fully healthy within their primary rotation.
Utah State Keys to Victory
Contain Dylan Andrews and Drew Fielder
The two major problems that Boise State will present are named Dylan Andrews and Drew Fielder. They’ve only gotten better and better as the season has worn on. At the time Utah State and Boise State last played, Andrews was going through a huge slump, shooting just 19% over his previous eight games. Since, and including, the game against the Aggies, Andrews is shooting 49% from the field and 39% from three. He’s become a real weapon for the Broncos and a thorn in anyone’s side. His peak, at least thus far, was winning Mountain West Player of the Week on Feb. 9, following a two-game stretch in which he averaged 29.0 points per game along with 2.0 rebounds and 5.0 assists. All while he shot 62% from the field and 47% from three.
Fielder was a non-factor in the last game against USU. He played just 15 minutes, committed more fouls (four) than he had combined points and rebounds (two points, one board). But much like Andrews, Fielder has played his best of late.
“You’ve got to kind of pick your poison,” Calhoun said of the guard-center duo. “Fielder is 6-10, 6-11, making four or five threes a game in the last couple games. Dylan Andrews shooting (shots) off the bounce. He’s been tremendous last week’s Mountain West player of the week. Really, really good player.
Get on big runs
Whether it results in rallying from down by multiple possessions or in building a sizable lead, Utah State should be able to take advantage of a Boise State team that is vulnerable to giving up big runs. The Broncos have given up 13 “kill shots” (runs of 10-0 or more) this season, which is third-worst in the Mountain West ahead of only Wyoming (14) and Air Force (21). Utah State, meanwhile, is second in the conference in kill shots with 17 this season.
Don’t let Broncos get hot from three
Boise State has gone from a team in the bottom third of college basketball in 3-point shooting to one of the best. Over the last eight games, the Broncos have shot 40% from distance, averaging 10 made threes per game. Andrews and Fielder have both played a massive role in that. Fielder himself has made 10 threes in just the last two games. He’s become an incredibly dangerous weapon in the pick-and-pop game where Andrews will threaten to drive the lane off a screen, requiring attention, but if too much attention comes Fielder gets a wide-open three and the 6-foot-10 big is hitting catch-and-shoot threes at a 44% rate this season.
Utah State has struggled to stop teams hitting from outside, whether that team is hot or not. The Aggies’ last four opponents have all made north of 35% from three with them all combining to make just shy of 40% of 3-pointers.
