Menéndez scores first MLS goal, RSL beats FC Dallas 3-2 – Cache Valley Daily

SANDY, Utah (AP) — Jonathan Menéndez scored his first MLS goal and Real Salt Lake rallied to beat FC Dallas 3-2 on Saturday night. Noah Powder’s shot was deflected by a defender and parried away by goalkeeper Phelipe Megiolaro, but Menéndez put away the rebound with a one-touch shot to give Real Salt Lake (8-8-6) the lead for good in the 54th minute. Albert Rusnák scored on a roller from the top of the area to make it 3-1 in the 72nd. Franco Jara’s slow roller into the side-net gave FC Dallas (6-10-7) a 1-0 lead in the 19th minute, but Justen Glad headed home a ball-in by Aaron Herrera just before halftime to tie it. Jesús Ferreira scored for Dallas in the 80th minute. Real Salt Lake, coming off back-to-back away losses, has won four straight home matches, its longest streak since winning five straight at Rio Tinto Stadium in 2019. Sartini, Vancouver’s director of methodology, took over as coach Friday after Marc Dos Santos was fired following a 4-3 loss to Pacific FC of the Canadian Premier League in the quarterfinals of the Canadian Championship. Mastroeni also was put in charge Friday, with Real Salt Lake firing Freddy Juarez. Brian White and Florian Jungwirth also scored to help the Whitecaps (6-7-8) extend their unbeaten streak to nine games. Vancouver took the lead in the 33rd minute on an own goal by Real Salt Lake’s Marcelo Silva. White scored in the 53rd, Gauld in the 64th and Jungwirth in the 69th. (AP) — Diego Rubio and Philip Mayaka converted headers five minutes apart in the second half in the Colorado Rapids’ 2-1 victory over Real Salt Lake on Saturday night. Mayaka scored the winner in the 71st minute, getting his head on a perfect cross from Braian Galvan. Five minutes earlier, Rubio stayed on the ground and then put Jack Price’s corner kick off the turf, slipping it inside the near post. Colorado (11-4-4) moved into third place in the Western Conference and averaged a 3-0 loss in Utah on July 24 in the first leg of the Rocky Mountain Cup. Salt Lake (7-7-6), which had won six of the last seven meetings, including three in Colorado, opened the scoring in the 51st on Albert Rusnak’s shot after a run and drop-back centering ball from Aaron Herrera. Álvarez gives Galaxy 1-0 win over Real Salt Lake – Cache Valley Daily

CARSON, Calif. (AP) — Efraín Álvarez scored in the 53rd minute and the LA Galaxy beat Real Salt Lake 1-0 on Wednesday night. Los Angeles (10-6-1) won for the fifth time in its last eight matches. Salt Lake (5-5-6) had its two-game shutout streak end. Álvarez started a give-and-go at the corner of the 18-yard box and calmly curled it around goalkeeper Zac MacMath from a difficult angle. Los Angeles nearly made it 2-0 in the 80th but MacMath denied Kévin Cabral’s wide-open attempt near the penalty spot.
