Utah State tops Nevada at home by 17 points – Cache Valley Daily

USU flags in Maverik Stadium. Photo by Clint Allen LOGAN — Back on its home field for the first time in nearly a month, Utah State took it to Nevada with a 17-point victory, 41-24, putting the Aggies just one win shy of bowl eligibility. One of the best signs of good fortune for Utah State was scoring on its opening drive, something the team hadn’t done since the Week 2 win over Idaho State (it was also just the third time the Aggies had gotten a first down on their first drive aside from the win over the Bengals and loss to San Jose State). Utah State drove 75 yards in 11 plays, finishing the drive with an aggressive fourth-down attempt from the four-yard line. Cooper Legas found a wide-open Broc Lane in the back of the end zone on a fake QB keeper play. Nevada would respond immediately to Utah State’s touchdown with a TD of its own, but the 86-yard scoring drive would be the only quality drive of the game for the Wolf Pack (or at least one not aided by a short field). Slowly but surely, the Aggies pulled away to secure its fifth win

The end of Utah State’s QB controversy – Cache Valley Daily

Utah State quarterback Cooper Legas (5) looks to throw the football during an NCAA football game on Saturday, Oct. 7, 2023 in Logan, Utah. (AP Photo/Tyler Tate) If you only got one word to describe the Utah State football team under Blake Anderson, there’s only once choice for a descriptor: resilient. How else could one encapsulate years of consistent comeback victories, refusing to lay down and accept a lost season when many others would have done so in a similar situation, and players being benched only to become heroes down the line? After Saturday’s win over San Diego State, the most recent example of the Aggies’ resilience, Anderson was asked if resilient was a good way to describe his team. “I think resilient is a great word,” Anderson said. “I think it’s a very close-knit group of guys that care about each other, care about our coaching staff. We throw the word love around a lot in that building. Player-to-player, player-to-coach, coach-to-player, and I think it shows on the field.” And of all the players on this football team, the exemplar of Utah State’s resilience has to be its quarterback, Cooper Legas. Twice he’s lost the quarterback battle to McCae

Legas leads rally, Larsen ices game in road win for USU over SDSU – Cache Valley Daily

Utah State safety Ike Larsen (6) motions to teammates on defense during an NCAA football game on Saturday, Oct. 7, 2023 in Logan, Utah. (AP Photo/Tyler Tate) When Utah State needs a big play, it can always count on Ike Larsen. The sophomore safety iced the game for the Aggies in their 32-24 double-overtime victory at San Diego State on Saturday, intercepting a Jalen Mayden pass on 4th & 4 after USU had already taken the lead in the second overtime period. It’s the second time Larsen has made a game-winning play on the road this season, joining his blocked PAT at UConn that preserved Utah State’s 34-33 lead over the Huskies with 40 seconds left in that game. Big-time plays have just come naturally to the Cache Valley native. “I don’t know that I’m surprised by it anymore,” USU head coach Blake Anderson said after the game. “I’m excited to see it. Nobody wanted to see that ball taken the other direction any more than I did.” It wasn’t the only big play Larsen made — he also had a big tackle on 2nd & 6 that kept SDSU from getting a first down prior to Larsen’s fourth-down pick
