Green Canyon tops first 4A Girls Soccer RPI, Ridgeline at No. 2 – Cache Valley Daily

The first RPI results of the season for girls soccer were released by the UHSAA Thursday morning. Green Canyon was ranked first by a fairly wide margin with Ridgeline narrowly coming in at No. 2, just ahead of Stansbury. There’s a considerable gap between the Wolves and Riverhawks in the rankings and the other Region 11 teams, but the remaining four teams are similarly bunched up. Logan comes in at 10th, Sky View at 11th, Mountain Crest at 12th and Bear River at 15th. Region 11 was the only region in 4A to have all of its teams inside the top 15 out of the 26 schools in the classification. In 5A rankings, Box Elder came in ranked 15th with a record of 5-4-0. Smith, the Girls Player of the Week winner, helped lead the Bobcats to an undefeated week with six games played, including a five-game showcase over the weekend on their home court in Smithfield. Throughout the week Smith averaged 4.0 kills and 3.2 digs per set. That included games of 18 kills, 14 digs against Blackfoot and 19 kills with 12 digs in a win over Region 11 rival Green Canyon. White had his second game of 170 yards in as many weeks. He ran the ball 27 times for 172 yards with three rushing scores in Ridgeline’s 28-27 nailbiter win over Stansbury on Friday. Mountain Crest looking to take next step – Cache Valley Daily

The 2022 season was a rebound year for a proud Mountain Crest football program. Between 2020 and 2021, the Mustangs had gone a combined 3-18 and hadn’t seen a winning season since 2018. The last time the team had a winning record was 2018 and that’s something new head coach Carson Mund is looking to change. The legacy of Bear River softball coach Calvin Bingham – Cache Valley Daily

Photo by Lorene Hale GARLAND – Of all the accomplishments in sports, the most validating is undoubtedly becoming league champion, earning the right to hoist a trophy and craft a championship ring to keep as a reminder of that achievement. Most never fulfil that goal. Some are able, even fewer manage on multiple occasions. Calvin Bingham Calvin Bingham has done it 11 times. In 24 years at the helm of the Bear River softball team, Bingham has led his team to 505 total wins and 11 Utah state softball championships. “Kinda unbelievable isn’t it?” Bingham said in an interview on the Full Court Press on 106.9 FM, 1390 AM, The FAN. In all of those years as coach, Bingham never had a losing season. Well, almost never. As his son dutifully reminds him, that COVID-19 season was cut short just after the Bears had dropped their season opener to Snow Canyon. So that’s one 0-1 “losing season” to 23 years with a winning record, technically speaking. Cache Valley area high schools tally 19 championship teams, 52 individual state champions – Cache Valley Daily

Scott From Brigham City to the south, Preston and Malad to the north, Cache Valley-area high schools saw success across the board, taking home 19 team championship trophies across a total of 25 sports and competitions which includes 52 individual event championships. A total of 10 teams finished as runner-ups in their respective sports. Green Canyon, Mountain Crest and Ridgeline were able to earn three championships apiece. Bear River, Bear Lake and Malad each had two title-winning teams with Preston, Rich, Sky View and West Side all having one. Box Elder and Logan were the only ones to get shut out of the trophy case in terms of team sports but both schools produced individual champions.
