LEFT – Green Canyon senior guard Jared Anderson | RIGHT – Ridgeline junior guard Emilee Skinner LOGAN — For the final week of basketball season, the Cache Valley Media Group Prep Players of the Week, Presented by McDonalds, happened to be the two players who took their respective teams the farthest in the 4A State Playoffs. Green Canyon guard Jared Anderson, whose Wolves made it to the semifinal round, and Ridgeline guard Emilee Skinner, who alongside her teammates, cut down the nets as back-to-back state champions. Anderson averaged 19.0 points per game in Green Canyon’s three playoff games. He scored exactly 23 in back-to-back games, including nine threes on those contests, for the Wolves’ win over Ridgeline in the quarterfinal and then loss to eventual champion Layton Christian Academy in the semifinal. Skinner scored at least 17 points in all four of Ridgeline’s playoff games en route to a second straight state title. She recorded a triple-double in the Riverhawks’ first playoff game against Crimson Cliffs, scoring 27 to go with 13 rebounds, 10 assists and seven steals. LEFT – Mountain Crest girls basketball guard Aspen Leishman | RIGHT – Green Canyon boys basketball guard Jared Anderson LOGAN — Mountain Crest girls basketball guard Aspen Leishman and Green Canyon boys basketball guard Jared Anderson have been named the Girls and Boys Cache Valley Media Group Prep Players of the Week, Presented by McDonalds, for the past week. Leishman led the Lady Mustangs to a 2-0 week, with wins over Green Canyon and Bear River. Against the Bears, Leishman earned Player of the Game honors as she scored 18 points which included four made 3-pointers to help power MC to victory. For the week, Leishman averaged 15.5 points and helped get the Mustangs into a tie for second place in the Region 11 standings. Anderson also helped his Wolves to a 2-0 week as they downed Mountain Crest and Logan. In the latter game, Anderson scored 29 points, his highest scoring total since early December, to help Green Canyon avenge a loss to the Grizzlies earlier this year. Hess played every minute of Mountain Crest’s upset win over Logan, the No. 3 team in the RPI. He scored 20 points, grabbed nine rebounds and had five steals plus two blocks to help the Mustangs get revenge for a triple-overtime loss to the Grizzlies in the first game of region play nearly a month ago. Skinner led the way for the Riverhawks in a 2-0 week featuring wins over Green Canyon and Skyridge. She scored 18-plus points in both games, averaging 20.5 points, 8.5 rebounds, 3.0 assists, 4.5 steals and 2.0 blocks in the two-game span.
