Green Canyon Ultimate Frisbee brings national title to Cache Valley | Sports

NORTH LOGAN – Numerous state championships have flowed into Cache Valley and north Box Elder County through the exploits of high school teams, some even competing on a national stage. These accomplishments are notable in their own way, but there’s a special air surrounding the term “national champion.” One that none of the state title winners can quite live up to, but one local team now can. Green Canyon’s Ultimate Frisbee team captured the title of national champions back on June 8, winning the finals of the 2024 High School National Invite. 130 student athletes from throughout Northern Utah receive Academic All-State awards | Sports

The Utah High School Activities Association (UHSAA) recently revealed its Academic All-State Teams for spring sports (boys tennis, girls golf, boys and girls lacrosse, boys soccer, girls and boys track and field, boys volleyball, baseball, softball), as well as Instrumental Music, Speech and Debate, Vocal Music and Theatre. Hundreds of students were recognized from around the state for the accomplishments in the classroom and in competition. “Since 1927, the UHSAA has led the development of education-based interscholastic athletic and fine arts activities that help students succeed in their lives,” says UHSAA Executive Director Robert Cuff. “The belief is these activities are an essential part of the high school experience and go a long way to improving academic performance and producing better citizens.” Students are nominated based on their unweighted cumulative high school GPA, ACT/SAT score and are varsity contributors. First 4A baseball RPI revealed, Bear River in top five | Sports

The UHSAA released the first of several RPI rankings to be revealed this week. This morning the baseball rankings were posted and Region 11 teams were not very well represented at the top as Bear River is the only team from the region to be inside the top 10 of the RPI. The Bears came in ranked fourth of the 24 teams in the 4A classification with Ridgeline at 13th, Green Canyon at 20th, Sky View at 23rd and Logan in the 24th spot. Box Elder, in the 5A RPI, came in at 13th of 31 teams. Five more RPI rankings are scheduled to be revealed this week, one each weekday through Friday.
