The first Mountain West Conference Gymnastics championships coming to Logan this weekend – Cache Valley Daily

LOGAN — It’s an exciting time in USU Athletics with the Men’s Basketball team back in the Big Dance, also Aggie Gymnastics is going to be hosting the inaugural 2024 Mountain West Conference Championships this Saturday night at 7p.m. in the Dee Glen Smith Spectrum. Joining Utah State will be league members Air Force, Boise State and San Jose State. On KVNU’s For the People program last week, Aggie head coach Kristin White explained why this is the first conference championship in the sport. “All four schools are incredibly grateful for the Mountain West to pick up gymnastics, it’s a really great opportunity for our student-athletes, and quite honestly, for our university and our fans. We’ve been one of the sports that hasn’t been involved in the Mountain West in prior years and our conference was in a sense, kind of a made up conference for some of the gymnastics schools, so that we could have championships and keep going into the post-season,” she explained. White, in her second year as coach for the team,  talked about why they needed to make this move now. “Over (last)summer, a lot of us had been trying to get in with the Mountain

(AP Photo/Adam Fondren) SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Anthony Edwards had 32 points, eight assists and seven rebounds to lead the Minnesota Timberwolves over the Utah Jazz 114-104 on Monday night. Edwards scored 25 of his 32 points in the second half to help the Timberwolves pull away late. It was his second consecutive 30-point game against the Jazz and third in a row overall. His effort on both ends of the court swung a tight game in Minnesota’s favor. “He’s always been a guy who can really flip a game around,” Timberwolves coach Chris Finch said. “Knows when to raise it. Knows when to make the big play. Can sometimes make it out of nothing. But now he’s like way more polished with what he’s doing. He’s a little more composed, not rushing it as much.” Naz Reid added 17 points on 7-of-12 shooting but did not play after halftime due to a head injury. Reid’s absence further depleted a Minnesota frontcourt already missing Rudy Gobert and Karl-Anthony Towns

Utah Jazz guard Collin Sexton comes off the rim after a dunk during the second half of an NBA basketball game against the Atlanta Hawks, Friday, March 15, 2024, in Salt Lake City. (AP Photo/Spenser Heaps) SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Keyonte George scored 25 points and Collin Sexton added 21 to lead the Utah Jazz to a 124-122 victory over the Atlanta Hawks on Friday night. George and Sexton combined for 11 assists to help the Jazz snap a three-game losing streak. Both players have had four 20-point games in March and this one helped Utah survive another game without Lauri Markkanen and Jordan Clarkson in the lineup. George is quickly evolving from a spot-up shooter into a multi-dimensional scoring threat. The first-round pick only made one 3-pointer against the Hawks, relying on going downhill and finishing at the rim. “Right now, I feel good about where my game is going,” George said. If he keeps it up, George could be the a long-term answer at point guard — a position run by committee for the Jazz at times earlier in the season. “Tonight is just a glimpse into what Keyonte’s future can be,” Jazz coach Will Hardy said.

San Diego State won 86-70. (AP Photo/Ronda Churchill) LAS VEGAS — March is where anything can happen in any game. Utah State found that out the hard way as it seemed to have everything under control in its semifinal matchup with San Diego State, only to have a significant lead crumble and end with a 86-70 loss to the Aztecs. With 7:25 left in the first half, everything was coming up Aggies. They’d gone on a 20-2 run and were doubling-up San Diego State 34-17, the Aztecs having shot just 32 percent so far in the game. Everyone for the Aggies was getting involved. Great Osobor had 11 points, Ian Martinez had eight, Mason Falslev — who out-toughed his shoulder injury to play tonight — had scored six. Even Kalifa Sakho got himself involved with four points. But, 7:25 later and Utah State’s lead had been slashed down to a mere three, the score sitting at 39-36 at the break. Less than
