MILLVILLE – For the third time this season, Ridgeline star guard Emilee Skinner has been named Cache Valley Media Group Prep Basketball Player of the Week, presented by McDonalds.

Skinner had multiple career performances, setting three career highs in the two games and setting a new season-high. Two of those career-highs came on Jan. 25 against Mountain Crest with Skinner breaking her personal bests in points (34) and 3-pointers made (six). Her new season high in steals (seven) also came in this game.

Against Mountain Crest, Skinner also grabbed 10 rebounds to record her fifth double-double of the season. In her second game of the week, Skinner was less involved in scoring with just 15 points but did block four shots for her third new career-high of the week. Across the two games this week, Skinner averaged 24.5 points, 5.5 rebounds, 3.0 assists, 4.5 steals and 2.0 blocks.

In winning the award this week Skinner is not only the only athlete to win CVMG Player of the Week three times, but remains the only athlete to win it multiple times in a season.

Four others were nominated this week including Carter Davis (Sky View boys), Jagger Francom (Ridgeline boys), Justin Anderson (Logan boys), and Maren McKenna (Green Canyon girls). Davis led Sky View to another undefeated week and scoring 20 points in back-to-back games. Francom blocked a career-high six shots in the Riverhawk’s win over Logan while also averaging 15.5 points for the week. Anderson logged another 20-point game in the Grizzlies loss to the Riverhawks and averaged 19.5 points for the week. McKenna kept up her run of good play with back-to-back games of 19 points and seven rebounds in Green Canyon’s 1-1 week.

Candidates for the Player of the Week award were nominated by Cache Valley Media Group staff and then voted on by all high school broadcast crew members, including “Hurricane” John Newbold, Jason Walker, Clint Payne, Dave Simmons, “The Patriot” Nick Zollinger, Jake Ellis, “The Coach” John Olsen, Cade Forest, Terrell Baldwin, Trent Carter, Josh Theurer and Eric Frandsen. Some stats may be unofficial. Also, thanks to the Cache and Box Elder McDonalds locations for sponsoring the POTW award and supporting local high school sports!
