North Dakota State, which won 10 of the last 15 championships in the FCS, will give the revamped Mountain West an even 10 members for football starting in 2026. The Bison went 12-1 in 2025, losing 29-28 at home in the second round of the playoffs to eventual runner-up Illinois State. Utah State escapes disaster, holds off late Wyoming rally | Sports

As the clock ticked under three minutes to play, Utah State’s road game in Laramie against the Wyoming Cowboys could hardly be going better. Sure, the home team had shot above-average from three and made life very difficult for the visiting Aggies in the first 37 minutes. But USU had made 12 of its last 14 field goal attempts and were leading by 11 points, 78-67. However, much like Wyoming had done all night, every haymaker by the Mountain West’s first-place team was answered in full. And when MJ Collins missed a free throw with 13 seconds, the Cowboys sprinted down the court with a chance for a game-winning shot that came up just short. That allowed Utah State to escape “Laradise” with an 85-83 win in a game which they were favored to win by nearly double digits. “I haven’t watched the tape so I don’t want to [be] quick to judge, but [we were] just very discombobulated,” USU head coach Jerrod Calhoun said of the final minutes. “As the momentum shifted our attention to detail and our understanding [of] time, score, different things, were not very good.” While the final three minutes could be a story unto itself,

Utah State basketball at Wyoming preview (Feb. 7): How to watch, team breakdowns, projected starters, injuries | Sports

The last time Utah State took on Wyoming, it was shortly after the Aggies had gone on a two-game skid with losses at Grand Canyon and vs UNLV. Now, USU is very much on the upswing, having won four consecutive games, including over fellow contenders San Diego State and New Mexico. One of those four wins was against Wyoming itself, a 94-62 domination that set multiple records for the 70-year series between the two sides, and Utah State will look to try and replicate the successes from that game on Saturday. Here’s all of the necessary info ahead of this game for the Aggies. Utah State makes statement with 20-point road beatdown at New Mexico | Sports

Just a few days after forcing a three-way tie for first place in the Mountain West, Utah State broke the tie with one of those teams by blasting New Mexico in the Pit 86-66. It’s the first win by the Aggies on the Lobos’ home court since 2022 and it also ended a 23-game home winning streak for UNM, which was the fourth-longest active home winning run in the nation. “To come in the Pit and win by 20 and hold them to 66 is a tremendous team win,” USU head coach Jerrod Calhoun said. Mason Falslev led the Aggies with 19 points, four rebounds, three assists and two steals in only 27 minutes as he dealt with some minor foul trouble in the middle of the game. MJ Collins had 14, pairing that with three assists and two steals. The final score hides what was a mostly competitive first half. Utah State took an early lead and even built up an eight-point advantage in the middle of the opening half. However, the Lobos rallied to take a 33-31 lead with two minutes left until the break. From that point on, the Aggies controlled the game. They ended the first

Hillstead, Brosterhous, Garcia? Breaking down Utah State’s pending quarterback battle | Sports

Utah State will see a new starting quarterback for the 2026 season as fan-favorite Bryson Barnes has graduated and used up all of his eligibility. And the stage has now been set for an offseason quarterback competition. The actors in this drama are ready, and will consist of returning QB/WR Anthony Garcia, Virginia transfer Grady Brosterhous, BYU transfer/former Aggie McCae Hillstead, freshman Kaleb Maryland and freshman Brady Goodman. Returning QB/WR Anthony Garcia could theoretically be in the mix, but is not expected to compete for a spot on the quarterback depth chart (more on that later). As of now, the top two candidates are probably the two transfers from power conference teams, Hillstead and Brosterhous (though the former’s status as a P4 transfer is somewhat muddied by the fact that he started his career at Utah State). Theoretically, they’d have the highest potential. That will be put to the test this spring, summer and fall when all of these players do battle behind the scenes. Here, we’ll break down as in-depth as possible both of these transfers and what they can bring to the table as a potential starter. But we won’t completely neglect Garcia or the incoming freshmen entirely
