Sky View and Green Canyon boys lacrosse teams advance to championship – Cache Valley Daily

Photo by Clint Allen SALT LAKE CITY – The 4A boys lacrosse championship on Friday, May 25 will be a rematch of last year’s title game, featuring Sky View and Green Canyon. #1 Sky View defeated #5 Judge Memorial 15-10 on Wednesday in the 4A boys lacrosse semifinal at Westminster College. The rematch of a game played on April 24 had nearly the exact same outcome, with Sky View winning 15-11 exactly one month ago. Sky View has been the top team in 4A all season, suffering only one loss early in the season (7-4 vs 6A Lone Peak on March 11). During these playoffs, Sky View defeated Mountain Crest 21-8 on Saturday and Judge Memorial 15-10 on Wednesday. The Bobcats will play in the 4A title game at 5:30 p.m. on Friday, May 25 at Zions Bank Stadium in Herriman. Boys and girls 4A lacrosse playoffs resume even with graduations taking place this week – Cache Valley Daily

SMITHFIELD – The opening round of the 4A boys and girls lacrosse playoffs saw the top two teams advance but there were also a number of upsets on Saturday. The semifinals for both the boys and girls resume on Tuesday and Wednesday at Westminster College, with the championships being played at Zions Bank Stadium in Herriman on Thursday for the girls and Friday for the boys. Playoff games this week conflict with some of the schools involved and their graduation ceremonies, notably Mountain Crest, Ridgeline and Green Canyon. Graduation ceremonies for the Mustangs are scheduled for Tuesday, May 24 at 1 p.m. at the USU Spectrum while the girls team is scheduled to compete at 3 p.m. at Westminster College in Salt Lake City. Graduation ceremonies for the Riverhawks are scheduled for Wednesday, May 25 at 1 p.m. at the USU Spectrum; and, ceremonies for the Wolves are scheduled for 6 p.m. on Wednesday, May 25 at 6 p.m. in the Spectrum. Those two teams are scheduled to face each other at Westminster at 3 p.m. that day. Bear River wins, but Ridgeline, Green Canyon and Mountain Crest falter in 4A baseball playoffs Tuesday – Cache Valley Daily

Miller Field at Brigham Young University on Tuesday. #8 Bear River outlasted #5 Desert Hills 11-10 in an up and down game in the consolation bracket. With the win, they will play Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Utah Valley University against fellow Region 11 foe Mountain Crest. #6 Ridgeline has struggled to get runners on base and across home plate, while also stopping their opponents from doing the same. On Monday, Ridgeline lost 10-1 vs. Dixie and Tuesday wasn’t much better. The Riverhawks lost 8-1 vs #2 Crimson Cliffs, meaning Ridgeline is officially eliminated from the playoffs. Later in the day, #7 Green Canyon suffered a similar 8-1 loss to #3 Dixie. But the Wolves were not eliminated from contention. PROVO – In the opening round of Bracket Play of the 4A baseball playoffs at Brigham Young University, #4 Mountain Crest began the day with a 5-1 victory over #5 Desert Hills. The #8 Bear River Bears held a 2-1 lead into the bottom of the 7th inning before a two run walk off home run by #1 Snow Canyon propelled the Warriors to a 3-2 win. #7 Green Canyon pulled off an upset with a 5-1 victory over #2 Crimson Cliffs. In the nightcap, the #3 Dixie Flyers got the best of #6 Ridgeline 10-1. All teams will be back in action Tuesday, with Mountain Crest and Green Canyon advancing in the winner’s bracket. But since it is a double elimination tournament, Bear River and Ridgeline are not out of it yet. 4A baseball playoffs move to Bracket Play with MC, RL, GC and BR heading to BYU – Cache Valley Daily

LOGAN – The opening round of the playoffs are done and multiple Region 11 teams are advancing to Bracket Play in both baseball and softball. In the Super Regionals of the baseball tournament, all of the higher-seeded Region 11 teams won their best-of-three series (without needing a third game). In fact, only one series required three games to be played and that was #5 Desert Hills needing three games to get past #12 Cedar. Double elimination Bracket Play gets underway May 15-16 at BYU. Bear River and Sky View take top spots in final lacrosse RPI rankings – Cache Valley Daily

LOGAN – Dominating seasons for the Sky View boys and Bear River girls lacrosse teams yielded top overall positions in the final RPI rankings of the season released by the Utah High School Activities Association. Both the Bobcats (18-1) and the Bears (14-1) only lost one game the entire season. Since the Logan boys team was disqualified after forfeiting multiple games in 4A, only eight teams advance to the playoffs. For girls lacrosse, the Bears earn a first round bye with nine teams participating and will face the winner of the play-in game between Logan and Judge Memorial. Green Canyon and Mountain Crest advance to the 4A boys soccer championship – Cache Valley Daily

HERRIMAN – The 4A boys soccer championship on Friday will feature a Region 11 rematch between the Green Canyon Wolves and the Mountain Crest Mustangs. The game will begin at 7 p.m. at America First Field in Sandy, home to Real Salt Lake, and will be broadcast on 107.7 KLZX with an option to listen live here on Cache Valley Daily. Both teams won their respective matches by two goals in the semifinals Thursday at Zions Bank Stadium in Herriman, #5 Green Canyon defeating #8 Dixie 2-0 and #6 Mountain Crest defeating the reigning 4A boys soccer champions #2 Crimson Cliffs 3-1. Green Canyon’s two goals came within a few minutes of each other in the first half. The first came in the 23rd minute by Colby Knight off an assist from Jovani Torres, and four minutes later Brayden Jensen scored after the ball bounced around from a penalty kick and got it past the Dixie goalie. For Mountain Crest, they had to come from behind after Crimson Cliffs scored within the first 10 minutes of the game.
