Sky View tops 4A RPI in both boys and girls basketball – Cache Valley Daily

SMITHFIELD – The first Utah High School Activities Association RPI rankings for boys and girls basketball were released Monday morning and Sky View topped the list for both sports. The Bobcats’ girls team is an undefeated 7-0 while its boys team is 9-1. Ridgeline’s boys and girls teams also did well in the RPI, coming in at second on the girls RPI and fourth in the boys. The Logan boys team came in at ninth despite owning the fifth-best winning percentage with a 7-3 record. The disparity comes from the Grizzlies having the second-worst opponent’s win percentage which accounts for 50 percent of the final number teams are ranked by. Region 11 currently fares much better overall in the girls RPI, owning the first three spots via (in order) Sky View, Ridgeline and Green Canyon. Five of the top seven 4A girls basketball teams are in Region 11. In boys basketball, the balance between Region 11 and Region 10 is much closer. The top team is Region 11 but two and three come from Region 10. The bottom four is also split between the two regions. Here is the full rankings for both boys and girls RPI with the number

UHSAA announces final Region and classification decision, keeping Logan in 4A – Cache Valley Daily

Logan High basketball. Photo by Lorene Hale. LOGAN – After several weeks of discussion and public comment, the Utah High School Activities Association (UHSAA) has officially adopted regions and classifications for high schools throughout the state of Utah. Of particular note, Region 11 will remain the same through the 2023-25 academic-athletic seasons with Sky View, Green Canyon, Logan, Ridgeline, Bear River and Mountain Crest staying in the 4A classification. The first consideration of classifications from UHSAA had Logan as the largest school in 3A. But when the organization announced schools’ proposed regions, they kept Logan in Region 11 as a 4A school. Officials for Logan had appealed to the UHSAA Board of Trustees to stay in 3A due to student population and participation in activities. In its first consideration for classifications, UHSAA considered Ogden and Ben Lomond as 4A schools, but Thursday’s announcement keeps Ogden and Ben Lomond in 3A where they have been, while denying Logan’s request to join them. A public hearing was held on Wednesday, December 14th to receive feedback from districts and schools on the placement of member schools into regions. According to UHSAA, in addition to the hearing, the UHSAA Board of Trustees received numerous

No changes proposed for Region 11 in UHSAA First Consideration of Regions for 2023-2025 – Cache Valley Daily

LOGAN – In mid-November, the Utah High School Activities Association (UHSAA) announced its “first consideration” or upcoming realignment. In its proposal, Logan High School would have dropped to 3A. But on Thursday, the UHSAA Board of Trustees released its first consideration of regions for 2023-25 and it kept the Logan Grizzlies in 4A with its other Region 11 schools, like Sky View, Green Canyon, Bear River, Ridgeline and Mountain Crest. In an interview during the Full Court Press on 106.9 The FAN when UHSAA’s first consideration was released, Logan High Athletic Director Mitchell Argyle said travel and keeping current region rivalries intact were major factors he would consider when deciding whether or not to appeal UHSAA’s realignment proposal. “I love playing in our valley,” Argyle said. “We enjoy our rivalries with our Cache Valley group and Bear River.” Argyle didn’t specify if he was leaning for or against the proposal, saying he and the Logan administration would wait and see how things go in the coming weeks as changes to the proposal happen. It appears the Logan administration did, in fact, appeal the original decision, opting to remain in 4A. The realignment and assignment of regions on Thursday did reveal
