Maren McKenna earns CVMG Prep Basketball Player of the Week award in final week of season – Cache Valley Daily

NORTH LOGAN – Green Canyon senior guard Maren McKenna saved her best games for the last week of the season and earned her first Cache Valley Media Group Player of the Week award. McKenna had a huge week for Green Canyon who went 2-0, including a victory over Sky View to earn a tie for second place in Region 11. McKenna had 30 points, 16 rebounds and 5 steals against Sky View. She followed it up with 21 points, 13 rebounds, 2 steals and 3 blocks in GC’s win over Bear River. For the week, McKenna averaged 25.5 points and 14.5 rebounds (both of which led Region 11 in boys and girls) along with 2.5 assists, 3.5 steals and 1.5 blocks. Four other players made up a stacked class of player of the week candidates – Elise Livingston (Ridgeline girls), Hannah Radford (Sky View girls), Justin Anderson (Logan), and Tanner Davis (Sky View boys). Livingston posted her first 20-point games of the season by scoring 24 against Mountain Crest and then 22 against Logan, making 18 of her 21 field goals for the week. Radford put up back-to-back 25-point games posting the exact same 25 points against Green Canyon and

Final RPI rankings and playoff pairings revealed for 4A basketball playoffs with Region 11 teams taking top seeds – Cache Valley Daily

The top teams in 4A girls and boys basketball heading into the state playoffs are in Region 11. The final RPI rankings and 4A playoff schedule from the Utah High School Activities Association were revealed Saturday morning, with the Ridgeline girls (22-0) and the Sky View boys (20-2) basketball teams ranked 1st. In girls basketball, the top three teams receive a first round bye but in boys basketball only the top two teams receive a first round bye since Layton Christian increases the number of boys teams. The Sky View girls (15-6) basketball team finished 2nd in the rankings and also receives a first round bye. The Green Canyon girls (15-5) team had been ranked 3rd much of the season, but in the final rankings that were revealed on Saturday the Wolves are ranked 4th. Although Dixie lost in their final game of the regular season, the Flyers (20-4) remain the #2 team in boys, narrowly edging out the Ridgeline Riverhawks (17-4) by .002 of a percentage. Dixie benefitted from having played a few more games than Ridgeline, giving them a slight edge in their own winning percentage. The first round of the 4A playoffs will take place on Tuesday,
