2024 Cache Valley Media Group Girls Basketball All-Region 11 Awards – Cache Valley Daily

LOGAN — Cache Valley Media Group is once again proud to present its Region 11 All-Region awards for the 2024 Girls Basketball season. For a fourth straight season, Region 11 saw a team appear in the 4A state championship game and for the third time in those four years, a Region 11 team took home the title as Ridgeline completed a 25-2 season that saw the Riverhawks not lose to a single team inside the state of Utah. The following awards and All-Region teams were voted on by Cache Valley Media Group’s group of high school broadcasters, including “Hurricane” John Newbold, Rex Davis, Jason Walker, Adam Loertscher, Trent Carter, Josh Theurer, Dave Simmons, “The Patriot” Nick Zollinger, Jake Ellis, “The Coach” John Olsen, Stockton Jewkes, Terrell Baldwin and Eric Frandsen. REGION 11 SUPERLATIVES Player of the Year — Emilee Skinner (Ridgeline) Ridgeline guard Emilee Skinner is once again CVMG Region 11 Player of the year, and despite being one of the top players in Region 11 in both her freshman and sophomore seasons, this was arguably Skinner’s finer year yet as she set new career highs in points (24.0), rebounds (7.7), assists (4.3) and blocks (1.7). This season was one of the most competitive for Region 11 in recent memory, making for a tough fight to the top of the standings which produced three teams that were ranked in the top five of the final RPI. The following awards and All-Region teams were voted on by Cache Valley Media Group’s group of high school broadcasters, including “Hurricane” John Newbold, Jason Walker, Adam Loertscher, Trent Carter, Josh Theurer, Dave Simmons, “The Patriot” Nick Zollinger, Jake Ellis, “The Coach” John Olsen, Stockton Jewkes, Terrell Baldwin and Eric Frandsen. REGION 11 SUPERLATIVES Player of the Year — Jordan Child (Logan) Although Logan lost a First Team All-Region player over the summer, Child ensured this year’s Grizzlies would not drop off and he did so through his spectacular two-way impact. The 6-foot-5 forward led the region in points (20.9), rebounds (7.8), steals (2.5) and blocks (1.7) and was also third in assists (3.8). Jared Anderson, Emilee Skinner earn CVMG Prep Player of the Week honors for Feb. 23-28 – Cache Valley Daily

LEFT – Green Canyon senior guard Jared Anderson | RIGHT – Ridgeline junior guard Emilee Skinner LOGAN — For the final week of basketball season, the Cache Valley Media Group Prep Players of the Week, Presented by McDonalds, happened to be the two players who took their respective teams the farthest in the 4A State Playoffs. Green Canyon guard Jared Anderson, whose Wolves made it to the semifinal round, and Ridgeline guard Emilee Skinner, who alongside her teammates, cut down the nets as back-to-back state champions. Anderson averaged 19.0 points per game in Green Canyon’s three playoff games. He scored exactly 23 in back-to-back games, including nine threes on those contests, for the Wolves’ win over Ridgeline in the quarterfinal and then loss to eventual champion Layton Christian Academy in the semifinal. Skinner scored at least 17 points in all four of Ridgeline’s playoff games en route to a second straight state title. She recorded a triple-double in the Riverhawks’ first playoff game against Crimson Cliffs, scoring 27 to go with 13 rebounds, 10 assists and seven steals. Emilee Skinner, Layker Ward earn CVMG Prep Player of the Week honors for Feb. 12-17 – Cache Valley Daily

LOGAN — Green Canyon guard Layker Ward and Ridgeline guard Emilee Skinner have been named the Boys and Girls Cache Valley Media Group Prep Players of the Week, Presented by McDonalds, for the past week. Ward helped Green Canyon finish the regular season on a four-game winning streak, especially with his career night at Bear River. The senior guard hit a career-best five 3-pointers en route to a likewise career-high 26 points. He also his a pair of triples against Sky View, giving Ward seven on the week. Skinner and the Riverhawks closed out an undefeated Region 11 slate, cutting down the nets Tuesday after Skinner led the team to victory with her 29 points, eight rebounds, six assists and seven steals. The 29 points was her highest single-game total throughout region play and tied for second highest this season. Her seven steals is also tied for second highest in a game this year. Final RPI rankings and playoff brackets revealed for 4A boys and girls basketball – Cache Valley Daily

The final RPI rankings for the regular season have been revealed by the Utah High School Activities Association for both boys and girls basketball, with Ridgeline (21-2) finishing as the top overall girls team in 4A. The Logan boys (18-5) were the highest rated team out of Region 11, ranked 3rd overall. Joining Ridgeline in the top 10 of the 4A girls basketball rankings are Green Canyon (12-9) at 6, Sky View (11-9) at 7 and Mountain Crest (12-11) at 10. Bear River (7-16) finished the season ranked 18th and Logan (1-15) finished ranked 25th. The cutoff to participate in the playoffs is 24 so the Grizzlies’ season is done. On the final night of Region play Friday, Logan defeated Ridgeline 61-56, Green Canyon defeated Bear River 63-50 and Mountain Crest defeated Sky View 58-57. Those outcomes may have played a factor in the final rankings and playoff seeding as Logan, Green Canyon (18-5) and Ridgeline (17-6) finished ranked 3, 4 and 5, respectively. Bear River (14-8) finished the season ranked 11th, Mountain Crest (13-9) finished 14th and Sky View (7-15) finished ranked 17th.
