Neemias Queta promoted from two-way deal with Boston Celtics, signs multi-year contract | Sports

Seven months after signing a two-way contract with the Boston Celtics, former Utah State star center Neemias Queta is reportedly being signed to a multi-year contract by the very same Eastern Conference frontrunners. Queta has played in 26 games this season, more appearances than his first two seasons — both with the Sacramento Kings — combined. With the Celtics being forced to manage minor injuries throughout the year with their main rotation bigs – Al Horford, Kristaps Porzingis and Luke Kornet – Queta had a couple stretches where he played volume minutes. From Dec. 15 to Dec. 31, Queta played in nine games, averaging 16 minutes, 5.8 points and 5.1 rebounds per game. That span also included his first two career double-doubles, a 10-point, 10-rebound game against Golden State and a 14-point, 12-rebound effort against the Los Angeles Clippers. The Portuguese big man has still spent some time in the G-League as part of being a two-way player, appearing in 11 games for the Maine Celtics this year and averaging 13.4 points, 7.8 rebounds and 1.9 blocks in those contests. While terms of the deal are not yet publicly known, it’s been reported by multiple insiders that the contract runs

Oluwaseyi helps Minnesota United earn 1-1 draw with Real Salt Lake | Sports

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — Tani Oluwaseyi scored late in the second half to help Minnesota United earn a 1-1 draw with Real Salt Lake on Saturday night. Real Salt Lake (3-2-2) scored first when Cristian Arango used an assist from Andrés Gómez in the 24th minute to send a header to the top left corner of the net. It was the sixth goal of the season for Arango, who was coming off a second-half hat trick in RSL’s 3-1 victory over St. Louis City. He is tied with Lewis Morgan of the New York Red Bulls for the league lead. Oluwaseyi pulled Minnesota United (3-1-2) even in the 87th minute when he took a pass from Robin Lod and scored his second goal of the season — and career. Minnesota United was forced to play a man down just two minutes later when midfielder Joseph Rosales was hit with a red card. Dayne St. Clair finished with four saves for Minnesota United. Zac MacMath saved six shots for Real Salt Lake, which improved to 1-1-2 on the road this season. Real Salt Lake returns home to play the Columbus Crew on Saturday. Minnesota United will host the Houston Dynamo

Competitive QB battle among works in progress for USU spring football | Sports

LOGAN — Two-and-a-half weeks into spring ball and Utah State is in pretty much the same position any Aggie team has been after just 18 days on the job. It’s a work in progress. “We’re so far away from, in terms of execution, what we want to be. Especially defensively,” USU head coach Blake Anderson said after Saturday’s first spring scrimmage for the team. “But compared to Friday to today, you can see they were just a little bit more prepared, a little bit more energy over there. Tackled better. “I like the fact that each time we go out we get a little bit more competitive. Make a few less mistakes and make a few more big plays.” A new defensive coordinator, plus new starters all across the defense, newcomers to the offensive line and wide receiver positions, and a quarterback competition to boot has given Anderson a long checklist of things that need to get done this spring. Thankfully, this isn’t last spring where the team would have been even further behind after a brutal amount of attrition due to graduation and the transfer portal (although the Aggies aren’t out of the woods in that regard with the

Klay Thompson scores 32 points as Stephen Curry rests, Warriors beat stumbling Jazz 118-110 | Sports

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — Klay Thompson found his offensive groove in a hurry, even on the toughest of shots with a defender in his face. Thompson scored 32 points and the Golden State Warriors ran away from the undermanned Utah Jazz early on the way to a 118-110 victory Sunday night. “He was amazing,” coach Steve Kerr said. “Klay’s shot-making really helped us get that lead.” The Warriors clinched at least a spot in the four-team play-in tournament before the game when Houston lost 147-136 in overtime to Dallas. The Warriors know they just have to “keep trying to win,” Kerr said, and he believes this team still has a great opportunity to make a special playoff run despite what could be a daunting road. “It’s going to be interesting, four games left and lots of possibilities,” he said. From the opening tip, Thompson came out looking for his shot to handle the bulk of the scoring load on a night Stephen Curry was held out for rest and Chris Paul started in his place as the Warriors won for the seventh time in eight games. Kerr utilized his 26th starting lineup combination of the season. The break gave Curry

Inaugural RPI for Boys Volleyball out, Ridgeline at No. 3 as best-ranked Region 11 team | Sports

The inaugural RPI for Boys Volleyball was released this morning by the Utah High School Activities Association (UHSAA), not only the first for this season but the first-ever for the sport in the state of Utah. Region 11 teams have done fairly well this season, with four teams currently with winning records, though the RPI has not reflected that initial success. Ridgeline did receive a favorable ranking, coming in at third as the highest ranked team from Region 11. Green Canyon and Sky View are ninth and 10th, respectively. Logan, despite being the first-place team in the region standings, is only 14th due to an overall lower strength of schedule. Mountain Crest is 22nd with Bear River at 26th. Mason Falslev leaves transfer portal, will stay at Utah State | Sports

LOGAN — In a big win for new head coach Jerrod Calhoun, hometown guard Mason Falslev has chosen to stay at Utah State and will remove his name from the transfer portal. The guard posted a picture of himself in an Aggie uniform on his Instagram account with the phrase “Once an Aggie always an Aggie🤝#committed.” Falslev entered the portal on March 27, the first of what was, as of early Friday morning, six Aggies to put their name out for a potential move away from Logan. RELATED: 2024 Utah State Men’s/Women’s Basketball Transfer Tracker This past season, Falslev played a crucial role on Utah State’s conference championship-winning squad as just a redshirt freshman. He started all 34 games he appeared in and averaging 11.3 points, 4.4 rebounds, 2.4 assists and 1.3 steals. Falslev joined a short list of Utah State freshman to score at least 300 points in a single season. His 384 points ranks fifth all-time among freshman behind Koby McEwen (462), Neemias Queta (414), David Collette (397) and Jaycee Carroll (384) and just ahead of Tai Wesley (348) among USU freshman to eclipse that 300-point mark. In addition to being one of the higher scoring freshman, Falslev’s debut
