Devon Dampier leads No. 15 Utah past Nebraska in Las Vegas Bowl, 44-22 | Sports

LAS VEGAS (AP) — Devon Dampier threw for 310 yards and two touchdowns and ran for 148 yards and three scores, and No. 15 Utah won the Las Vegas Bowl in Morgan Scalley’s first game as coach, beating Nebraska 44-22 on Wednesday in the Las Vegas Bowl. Scalley was expected to be the Utes’ coach beginning after this game, but Michigan hired Kyle Whittingham on Friday, prompting a quicker change. “There have been so many distractions for these players,” Scalley said. “The game is all about them, and so they’re the ones that don’t deserve all the distractions. They worked their tails off.” For Dampier, the game MVP, the question now is whether the junior will return to Salt Lake City or enter the transfer portal and maybe even follow his old coach to Michigan. He didn’t directly address a question regarding what his thought process would be over the next two days. “It’s the last couple of hours I get to hang out with these guys,” Dampier said. “That’s where my mind is going to be at for sure.” This game was considered a sort of audition for Nebraska freshman quarterback TJ Lateef, who passed for 182 yards and

Utah State football’s biggest offseason needs | Sports

Utah State’s 2025 season has officially come to a close, which means it’s time to look ahead to the 2026 season. It’s hard to set expectations for how the offseason will go down thanks to the chaos of the transfer portal, but at the very least it should be less hectic than the previous one which featured an almost entirely new roster in addition to the new coaching staff. Said staff, led by head coach Bronco Mendenhall, are already hard at work figuring out what needs have to be met to build on their first season at Utah State. The 6-7 record in 2025 was decent in context, but is not the kind of season fans will be content with for long. Utah State fans haven’t seen a winning campaign come through Logan since 2021, and they’ll be itching for one to come in 2026. The following are the most important things for Utah State to address ahead of next season. They are certainly not the only things, but these need to be checked off or next year may not be much better than this year. And that’s not something Mendenhall and Co. can afford if they want to overstay

Derrick White has 27 points and 7 blocks to lead Celtics past Jazz 129-119 | Sports

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Derrick White scored 13 of his 27 points in the fourth quarter and added a career-high seven blocks in a one-of-a-kind performance Tuesday night that carried the Boston Celtics to a 129-119 win over the Utah Jazz. White became the 13th player in NBA history to have 27 points, seven rebounds, six assists and seven blocks in a game. But he was the first guard — or member of the Celtics — to post that statistical combination. Jaylen Brown had 23 points and 10 assists for Boston, ending his streak of 30-point games at nine. He remained tied with Celtics great Larry Bird, who had nine straight 30-point games in February and March of 1985. Anfernee Simons scored 20 points and Payton Pritchard added 18 for the Celtics, who have won five of six. Keyonte George, listed as questionable with an illness until a couple of hours before tipoff, scored 37 points for the Jazz. Jusuf Nurkic had a season-high 26 and Lauri Markkanen added 22. Utah rested rotation regulars Svi Mykhailiuk and Kevin Love, and rookie Ace Bailey was out with a hip injury. Nurkic’s free throw drew Utah within four, but Brown, Pritchard

Great defense overcomes Utah State’s turnover struggles in win over Fresno State | Sports

Ugly wins are still wins and that’s what Utah State will take home from California as it downed Fresno State 72-63 Tuesday evening. In the resumption of Mountain West play, the Aggies were 15 points favorites against Fresno State, though the most they led by all night was 13 and allowed the Bulldogs within six points in the final minute. USU head coach Jerrod Calhoun maintained a positive outlook, saying “we’re not going to sit around and moan and groan about getting a win.” Though he certainly didn’t let them completely off the hook for the product that was put on the court. The Aggies committed a season-worst 20 turnovers and tied their season high with 23 personal fouls, sending Fresno State to the free-throw line 22 times. On the other side, the Bulldogs gave the ball away 18 times and shot 34.5% from the field. “You guys should be happy you didn’t have to watch that live [in person],” Calhoun said to the media in the post-game zoom press conference. “I’m sure Coach [Vance Walberg] felt the same way.” Games against Fresno State have been an adventure for Utah State. Even with some of the best Aggie teams going
