Dylan Guenther breaks a tie on 3rd-period power play in Utah’s 3-2 victory over the Ducks | Multimedia

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Dylan Guenther broke a tie on a power play at 7:03 of the third period and the Utah Hockey Club beat the Anaheim Ducks 3-2 on Wednesday night. Guenther beat goalie Ville Husso with a one-timer from the left side off a feed from defenseman Mikhail Sergachev. Guenther has a career-high 24 goals this season. Jack McBain and Alexander Kerfoot also scored to help Utah move within two points of the second wild card in the Western Conference. Karel Vejmelka made 19 saves. Alex Killorn and Mason McTavish scored for Anaheim, and Husso stopped 36 shots. McBain opened the scoring with 8:57 left in the first period. Kerfoot made it 2-0 with 5:29 to go in the second, beating Husso from close range with a quick shot. Killorn got one back for Anaheim 1:02 later, and McTavish tied it on a power play at 3:22 of the third. Takeaways Ducks: Anaheim was coming off a 7-4 home loss to Washington on Tuesday night. NBA fines Jazz $100,000 for holding Lauri Markkanen out of recent games | Sports

NEW YORK (AP) — The NBA fined the Utah Jazz $100,000 on Wednesday for violating the league’s player participation policy after failing to make leading scorer Lauri Markkanen available for recent games. The league said it was penalizing the team for failing to make Markkanen available at Washington on March 5 as well as other games the past few weeks. The 7-footer from Finland had not played since a win over Houston on Feb. 22. Markkanen, averaging 19.3 points, was available for Wednesday’s game at Memphis after previously being listed as questionable due to a lower back injury. Kennard and Morant convert late 3-pointers to lead Grizzlies past Jazz 122-115 | Sports

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) — Luke Kennard scored 30 points and Ja Morant had 28, helping the Memphis Grizzlies top the Utah Jazz 122-115 on Wednesday night. Kennard went 7 for 9 from 3-point range, and Morant was 4 for 7 from deep. Desmond Bane added 17 points as Memphis posted its fourth straight win. Utah lost its seventh consecutive game. Collin Sexton had 22 points, eight rebounds and seven assists, and John Collins also scored 22 points. Sexton scored to give the Jazz a 115-114 lead with 1:16 left, but Kennard responded with a 3 for the Grizzlies. Morant then hit another 3 to make it 120-115 with 12 seconds remaining. Referee Scott Twardoski did not return for the second half, leaving a two-man crew of Ed Malloy and Brandon Schwab. Twardoski was sidelined by an unspecified injury. Marner scores in SO to give Maple Leafs 4-3 win over Utah | Sports

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Mitch Marner scored the deciding goal in the shootout and the Toronto Maple Leafs beat the Utah Hockey Club 4-3 on Monday night. William Nylander, Calle Jarnkrok and Steven Lorentz scored in regulation for Toronto, and Joseph Woll finished with 30 saves. The Maple Leafs had lost three straight (0-2-1). Nick Schmaltz, Barrett Hayton and Michael Carcone scored for Utah, which had won four of it’s previous six games. Karel Vejmelka had 23 saves. Auston Matthews also scored in the tiebreaker for Toronto, and Clayton Keller tied it for Utah. Nylander and Jarnkrok scored power-play goals in the first period to give Toronto a 2-0 lead. Lorentz made it 3-0 at 4:48 of the second. Carcone began Utah’s comeback at 8:14 of the middle period, Schmaltz made it a one-goal game 49 seconds later, and Hayton’s power-play goal tied it with 7:49 leftin the period. Takeaways Maple Leafs: It wasn’t pretty, with Toronto scoring just once at even strength, but this was a big two points that pulled the Maple Leafs within two of Atlantic-leading Florida.
