Utah State football announces home and home series with Utah | Sports

LOGAN, Utah – Utah State Vice President and Director of Athletics Cameron Walker announced Monday that the Aggie football team will play a home and home series with the University of Utah in 2031 and 2033.

Utah State will host the Utes at Maverik Stadium on Aug. 28, 2031, and play in Salt Lake City at Rice-Eccles Stadium on Sept. 1, 2033.

Utah State also announced that its previously scheduled road game against Utah during the 2031 season will now be played in Salt Lake City on Sept. 14, 2030.

“As we continue to build momentum within our department, this series represents a strategic step forward for Utah State Football,” said USU Vice President and Director of Athletics Cameron Walker. “Competing against a nationally respected in-state opponent aligns with our vision to strengthen our schedule, grow our visibility, and position our program for long-term success.

“Bringing a premier in-state opponent to Maverik Stadium creates an electric atmosphere. In-state matchups energize our fan base, create meaningful experiences for our student-athletes, and are good for the entire state. We look forward to Aggie football competing at the highest level moving forward.”

Utah State and Utah have faced one another 113 previous times, which is the most played series in school history for both programs. It is also the eighth-most played series in the western United States.

The two programs had not faced one another for nine seasons prior to playing in Logan at Maverik Stadium during the 2024 campaign. The teams have played one another 75 previous times in Salt Lake City and 38 times in Logan.

The last time the two teams met in Salt Lake City was during the 2015 campaign.

Known as the Battle of the Brothers, the Utah State and Utah series began in Logan on Nov. 25, 1892, which was also the first-ever game for both programs. USU won that contest 12-0.
