Ducks beat the Mammoth 4-1 to pad their Pacific Division lead | Sports

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Alex Killorn broke a tie off a scramble at 9:09 of the second period, Lukas Dostal stopped 29 shots and the Anaheim Ducks beat the Utah Mammoth 4-1 on Friday night to pad their Pacific Division lead. After the puck was cleared off the goal line behind goalie Vitek Vanecek, the Ducks’ Sennecke ended up with it on the left side and slipped a pass to Killorn for a shot before Vanecek was set. Killorn also had two assists. Ryan Poehling, Cutter Gauthier and Mikael Granlund also scored to help the Ducks — playing without suspended defenseman Radko Gudas — rebound from a 3-2 overtime loss to Philadelphia on Wednesday night at home. They moved three points ahead of Edmonton in the division. Gudas served the fourth game of a five-game suspension for kneeing Auston Matthews in a loss at Toronto on March 12. Matthews tore the medial collateral ligament in his left knee and will miss the rest of the season. Poehling tied it with 6:23 left in the first, beating Vanecek with a nifty move on a short-handed break. Poehling took a pass from Killorn, sped down the left side, cut right and

Cincinnati to hire Utah State head coach Jerrod Calhoun | Sports

According to reports from CBS and other news outlets, Utah State head coach Jerrod Calhoun will be on the move to a new job. He will be hired away from Logan by the University of Cincinnati to take over the Bearcats’ struggling program. The news, broken by Matt Norlander of CBS, came while Utah State’s chartered plane was still in the air. It had not yet been 24 hours since the Aggies had suffered their season-ending loss to Arizona. According to Norlander, Calhoun is signing a six-year contract with the Bearcats and a public announcement is expected to occur in the coming days. Calhoun’s hire by Cincinnati ends a brief two-year tenure. One where he accomplished as much and more than his also short-tenured predecessors. Calhoun won 55 games with the Aggies, including 29 in the 2025-26 season where Utah State laid claim to the regular season and conference tournament titles for the Mountain West. The frequency with which Utah State has had to cycle through coaches has become a just-as-common national headline. In the last eight years, they’ve had Craig Smith (2018-21), Ryan Odom (2021-23), Danny Sprinkle (2023-24) and Calhoun (2024-26) lead the program. Smith is the only one
