LOGAN, Utah – Utah State women’s basketball fell to Boise State, 76-60, on Saturday night at the Dee Glen Smith Spectrum.
Both teams struggled offensively in the early going before senior guard Karyn Sanford’s layup got the Aggies on the board at the 8:18 mark. USU got out to a 6-2 lead before Boise State went on a 17-1 first quarter run. Two 3-pointers by sophomore guard Elise Livingston pulled the Aggies back to a 22-15 deficit at the end of the first quarter. Both teams went back-and-forth during a hard-fought second quarter, with the Broncos taking a 38-30 advantage into halftime. Five quick points from senior forward Sophie Sene helped USU pull within one point midway through the third quarter. USU’s offense went cold from that point onward, however, as the Aggies shot 1-of-12 from the floor during a 12-minute stretch where the Broncos regained control of the game with a 27-4 run.
Livingston led the team with 17 points, including 13 in the opening half, on 4-of-9 shooting from the floor and a perfect 6-of-6 showing from the charity stripe. Sene added 16 points on 6-of-10 shooting and a team-high five rebounds. Sanford led the team with five assists and two steals, also adding nine points and four rebounds. Junior guard Aaliyah Gayles returned to the lineup after missing the previous five games due to injury, pitching in two points and two assists in 10 minutes of action.
USU finished the game shooting 38.0 percent (19-of-50) from the field and 35.0 percent (7-of-20) from 3-point range while shooting 83.3 percent (15-of-18) from the FT line. Boise State finished with a mark of 41.7 percent (25-of-60) from the field and 36.7 percent (11-of-30) from behind the arc and made 88.2 percent (15-17) of their free throws.
