LOGAN, Utah – Utah State’s student-athletes combined to earn a school-record 481 total academic awards during the 2024-25 academic year, which rank as the second-most in the Mountain West.
In all, Utah State student-athletes finished second in the MW with 254 academic honors and was second in the conference with a school-record 227 scholar-athletes during the past academic year.
New Mexico finished first in the MW with 504 total academic honors, followed by Utah State (481), Fresno State (395), Boise State (356), Colorado State (348), UNLV (345), San José State (291), Nevada (278), Wyoming (272), San Diego State (260) and Air Force (223).
To qualify for the all-conference academic teams, student-athletes must have completed at least one academic term at the member institution while maintaining a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better and competed in 50 percent of the team’s completed varsity contests. Some latitude was permitted to accommodate injured student-athletes. The MW Scholar-Athlete Award is one of the highest academic honors bestowed by the Conference. To be eligible for selection, student-athletes must have completed at least two academic terms at the member institution, while maintaining a cumulative grade point average of 3.50 or better.
The women’s track & field team led the way for Utah State with 103 honors and was followed by the men’s track & field team with 78. Football was third with 43 honors and followed by soccer (42), women’s cross country (40), softball (31), gymnastics (26), men’s cross country (25), volleyball (25), women’s basketball (20), men’s basketball (15), women’s tennis (13), men’s tennis (11) and golf (9).
Utah State Athletics’ commitment to success in the classroom continued through the spring 2025 semester, highlighted by an impressive cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.51 and a term GPA of 3.57 by its 360 student-athletes, marking the highest GPAs in department history. It represented the 46th consecutive term that all Utah State student-athletes combined to achieve a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher, dating back to the fall of 2002.
During the spring, 90% of student-athletes earned a 3.0 or higher term GPA, while 86% earned a 3.0 or higher cumulative GPA, surpassing the 80% tally from the fall 2024 semester. Additionally, 86 student-athletes made the Utah State University Dean’s List – a 20-person increase from the previous semester.
Women’s teams recorded a 3.71 term GPA, and men’s programs finished with a 3.44 GPA, setting new program highs. In addition, both set cumulative GPA program highs, with the women finishing with a 3.68 and the men with a 3.34. All varsity programs achieved a 3.0 or higher term and cumulative GPA, marking the second consecutive semester that all teams reached a 3.0 GPA.
