How former Aggies fared in NBA Summer League | Sports

The five former Utah State men’s basketball players participating in this year’s NBA Summer League, which wrapped up on Sunday, got a decent amount of time to showcase their skills though most struggled to make a significant impact. Steven Ashworth (Indiana), Darius Brown (Cleveland), Great Osobor (Houston), Max Shulga (Boston) and Josh Uduje (San Antonio) were each part of Summer League rosters and all appeared in at least four games. Uduje had the honor of appearing in two different summer leagues, the California Classic and Las Vegas Summer League.

Brown, Shulga and Osobor received the most playing time, each averaging north of 16 minutes per appearance. Osobor posted the highest scoring average (7.4 points) and had the best overall game with his 16 points, five rebounds and two steals against the Trail Blazers on Thursday. Brown and Shulga were both great distributors, each averaging exactly 3.8 assists per game, but struggled in terms of efficiency with Brown shooting 17.4% and Shulga managing little better at 24.1%. Ashworth produced solid averages based on his limited playing time, averaging 3.8 points and 2.4 assists in just 10 minutes per game. Uduje saw up-and-down playing time, but on Saturday had a solid outing with 11 points against the Pistons.

Darius Brown Cleveland Cavaliers 4 21.1 4.0 4.5 3.8 1.0 0..0 17.4% 7.7%
Great Osobor Houston Rockets 5 16.3 7.4 4.8 1.0 1.0 0.6 46.7% 0.0%
Max Shulga Boston Celtics 5 21.0 5.0 1.6 3.8 1.8 0.4 24.1% 21.4%
Josh Uduje San Antonio Spurs 4 7.3 4.5 1.0 1.2 0.0 0.2 58.3% 50.0%

Without many standout performances, the future of these players is uncertain. Shulga is the only player with some certainty, as he signed a two-way contract with the Celtics. Ashworth signed an Exhibit 10 deal, meaning he will likely end up with the Pacers’ G-League team. Brown could likely end up with the Cleveland Charge, where he spent last season. Neither Osobor or Uduje signed contracts ensuring they would remain in the organization they played in Summer League, though it’s possible either or both could end up with G-League teams this upcoming season.

One former Utah State player absent from summer league was Ian Martinez. Although he did workouts with both the Utah Jazz and Cleveland Cavaliers, Martinez went undrafted and did not sign any contracts to play on a summer league roster.
