The number one player for Utah State football in the Cache Valley Media Group Top 25 Aggies of 2024 is wide receiver Jalen Royals.
Last year Royals had a breakout season for the ages. He went from not playing just 48 snaps on offense in all of 2022, to setting a Utah State program record in 2023. Royals caught 71 passes for 1,080 yards and a USU single-season record 15 touchdown passes. Seven of those TDs were catches of 50 yards or longer, a total the led the nation.
Royals’ season is perhaps more impressive given that through the first four games of the year he had only 197 yards and two touchdowns. He exploded onto the scene with his next three games, with games of 185 yards and three TDs against UConn, 140 yards and two scores against Colorado State and 125 yards with another two touchdowns vs Fresno State.
The Top 25 Aggies is based on a vote from members of Utah State media including Jason Walker, Eric Frandsen, Craig Hislop and Ajay Salvesen. A public fan poll was also used with its results being used as a fifth ballot. The full list of 25 players will be revealed one at a time each weekday on the Full Court Press (106.9 FM, 1390 AM) at 4:25 p.m. from July 22 until August 26.
