Mountain West signs TV deal with TNT Sports, Utah State vs New Mexico to be on TruTV | Sports

The Mountain West Conference and TNT Sports announced a multi-year TV broadcasting agreement this morning which will begin this year. The deal will include 14 broadcasts of Mountain West football games for the 2024 season, one of which includes Utah State as the Aggies’ Oct. 19 matchup with New Mexico will be on TruTV with a now-announced kickoff time of 2 p.m.

All 14 of the Mountain West games will air on TruTV and streamed on HBO’s Max.

TNT Sports, formerly known as Warner Bros. Discovery Sports and earlier as Turner Sports, is expanding back into broadcasting college football games for the first time in more than a decade. It had already agreed to sublicensing deals with ESPN that will let them air College Football Playoff games.

This agreement runs alongside the current agreement between the Mountain West and both Fox Sports and CBS which signed a media rights deal in 2020 that runs through the end of the 2025-26 academic year. The majority of Mountain West games will still air on channels through CBS (27, primarily through CBS Sports Network with some on the main CBS channel) and on Fox (18 on either Fox or FS1). Utah State has already announced six of its games will appear on one of the two networks, four on CBS and two with Fox.

Not all Mountain West teams will be included in one of the 14 games, seven of which feature a MW team against a non-conference opponent. Boise State, Hawai’i and UNLV are not involved in any of the games with San Diego State, Air Force and Utah State all only appearing in one. The most impacted are San Jose State and New Mexico who will be in five and four of the games, respectively.

The one additional game for Utah State brings the total number of its games on TV broadcasts up to nine. Along with the six games on Fox/CBS, and this newly-announced TruTV game against New Mexico, the Aggies are set to be on the Big Ten Network when facing USC on Sept. 7, then on the CW when taking on Washington State.

USU still has three games not currently contracted to appear on a TV network — the season and home opener on Aug. 31 against Robert Morris, its road game at Temple on Sept. 21 and one other home game against Hawai’i on Nov. 16. In a press release, Utah State said information on broadcasts for those games will be announced later this summer.

Last year, Utah State games that were not picked up by any other networks were aired by KMYU and also available to be streamed on the Mountain West Network. That would likely apply to the Robert Morris and Hawai’i games. The game at Temple will likely be on ESPN+ as it is the main fallback for AAC teams. But, again, no announcements have been made yet.
