Utah Hockey Club debuts Oct. 8 against Chicago, the same night Panthers raise Stanley Cup banner | Sports

The Utah Hockey Club will play its first regular-season game Oct. 8 against Connor Bedard and the Chicago Blackhawks, marking the debut of the NHL in Salt Lake City following the team’s move from Arizona. That same night, the Florida Panthers will raise their first Stanley Cup banner to the rafters in Sunrise, Florida, before facing off against the Boston Bruins. The NHL released the list of home openers for each of its 32 teams Monday with the full 1,312-game regular-season schedule expected this week. Utah, which is expected to have a permanent name in time for the 2025-26 season, will play at the Delta Center, home of the NBA’s Utah Jazz, an arena that will undergo renovations to provide more unobstructed views for NHL games. Mountain West signs TV deal with TNT Sports, Utah State vs New Mexico to be on TruTV | Sports

The Mountain West Conference and TNT Sports announced a multi-year TV broadcasting agreement this morning which will begin this year. The deal will include 14 broadcasts of Mountain West football games for the 2024 season, one of which includes Utah State as the Aggies’ Oct. 19 matchup with New Mexico will be on TruTV with a now-announced kickoff time of 2 p.m. All 14 of the Mountain West games will air on TruTV and streamed on HBO’s Max. Neemias Queta re-signs with Boston Celtics on multi-year contract | Sports

Former Utah State men’s basketball star center Neemias Queta seems to have found a longer-term home in the NBA after re-signing with the NBA champion Boston Celtics in the early hours of free agency and the start of the new league year. The deal, first reported by Shams Charania of The Athletic, is reported to be a two-year contract worth an estimated $4.5 million. A little more than 24 hours before the start of the free agency period, the Celtics technically waived Queta, though reports did indicate mutual interest in re-negotiating a new deal. The contract Boston opted out of was likewise a multi-year agreement. Queta had initially signed a two-way contract on Sept. 17 shortly after being waived by the Sacramento Kings. That two-way deal was later converted to a rest-of-season contract worth just under $2.3 million for the rest of the 2023-24 season, including playoffs, and a team option for Boston to keep Queta for the 2024-25 season. Boston chose to decline the option for 2024-25 but re-signed Queta for a very similar salary but with one more year attached to the end of it.
