Addy Sofonia, Brevin Egbert earn CVMG Prep Player of the Week honors for Aug. 28-Sept. 2 – Cache Valley Daily

LEFT – Mountain Crest girls soccer senior Addy Sofonia | RIGHT – Sky View football running back Brevin Egbert LOGAN — For the week of Aug. 28 to Sept. 2, Mountain Crest girls soccer senior Addy Sofonia was named the Cache Valley Media Group Girls Prep Player of the Week while Sky View football running back Brevin Egbert earned Boys Prep Player of the Week, both awards presented by McDonalds. Sofonia recorded three goals in the week, all three as part of a hat trick she scored against Sky View in the Mustangs’ 4-1 victory over the Bobcats. The win advanced MC to 3-1 in Region 11 play, tied with Green Canyon and Ridgeline for first-place in the tightly contested region. Egbert tallied 208 scrimmage yards in Sky View’s 35-7 win over Fremont on Friday. He ran for 185 yards on 21 carries and caught two passes for 23 yards. He also scored three touchdowns, all on the ground. Green Canyon ranked first in inaugural 4A football RPI release of 2023; Ridgeline 2nd and Sky View 4th – Cache Valley Daily

The first RPI rankings from the Utah High School Activities Association were released this week after 4 weeks of action throughout the state, and three undefeated Region 11 teams found themselves within the top four in 4A with Box Elder ranked 1st in 5A. The Green Canyon Wolves (4-0, 0-0) have quickly established themselves as the top defensive team in 4A and the opening RPI rankings list the Wolves as the top team overall. Undefeated Green Canyon has given up only 25 total points through four games to 5A Hunter (3-1, ranked #5), 4A Stansbury (2-2, ranked #8), 5A Highland (2-2, ranked #15) and 3A Morgan (1-3, ranked #5). The Ridgeline Riverhawks (4-0, 0-0) come in 2nd in the inaugural rankings with a solid approach of good offense and solid defense. Through their first four games, the Riverhawks have defeated 5A Bonneville (2-2, ranked #10), 6A Riverton (0-3, ranked #12), 4A Stansbury (2-2, ranked #8) and 5A Cedar Valley (2-2, ranked #14). Ranked 4th, the Sky View Bobcats (4-0, 0-0) have overwhelmed their opponents with elite offense. Sky View is the second-highest scoring offense in 4A with 180 total points so far, only a few points behind Timpanogos (188). The
