Bracket Play resumes for RL, BR, MC, and SV in 4A softball playoffs

LOGAN – The opening round of the playoffs are done and multiple Region 11 teams are advancing to Bracket Play in the 4A softball playoffs. In the Super Regionals, all of the higher-seeded Region 11 teams won their best-of-three series. The Mountain Crest Mustangs required three games to get past Hurricane, but all other Region 11 teams got their series wrapped up in two games. Double elimination Bracket Play gets underway May 17-18 at the Cottonwood Softball Complex located at 4400 South 1300 East in Millcreek, with brackets now re-seeded after the Super Regionals. Multiple games will begin Wednesday at 12 noon, including #1 Ridgeline facing #8 Mountain Crest on Field 2. #2 Bear River takes on #7 Cedar at 12 p.m. on Field 4. And #6 Sky View takes on #3 Desert Hills on Field 3, also at 12 p.m. Because of their end-of-season RPI rankings as the #1 and #2 teams in softball, neither Ridgeline nor Bear River needed to participate in Super Regionals last week. Bouanga sparks LAFC to 3-0 victory over Real Salt Lake

SANDY, Utah (AP) — Dénis Bouanga scored his league-leading ninth goal of the season to lead Los Angeles FC to a 3-0 victory over Real Salt Lake on Saturday night. LAFC (6-1-3) beat Real Salt Lake (3-6-2) for a seventh straight time and improved to 11-1-0 in the series. Kwadwo Opoku picked up his first goal — with an assist from Ilie Sánchez — since scoring in the season opener to stake LAFC to a 1-0 lead in the 8th minute. Bouanga stretched the lead to 2–0 when he took a pass from Carlos Vela and scored in the 35th minute. Logan Hammer, Brennan Benson claim titles on last day of MW Outdoor Championships – Cache Valley Daily

CLOVIS, California — Logan Hammer and Brennan Benson provided the highlights for Utah State track & field on the final day of the Mountain West Outdoor Championships, claiming the first individual titles for USU since 2019. In the team standings, the Aggie men held on for a fifth-place finish with 73 points, while the women finished eighth with 50.5 points. USU’s titles came in rapid succession. After clearing three previous heights, Hammer cleared 5.25 meters (17-2.75) on his second attempt, which proved to be enough to claim the MW pole vault championship over last year’s champion and runner-up, Colorado State’s Eldridge Harris and Air Force’s Caiden Macktinger, respectively. Hammer’s mark ranks fourth all-time at Utah State and ranks fifth nationally among freshmen. 4A baseball playoffs move to Bracket Play with MC, RL, GC and BR heading to BYU – Cache Valley Daily

LOGAN – The opening round of the playoffs are done and multiple Region 11 teams are advancing to Bracket Play in both baseball and softball. In the Super Regionals of the baseball tournament, all of the higher-seeded Region 11 teams won their best-of-three series (without needing a third game). In fact, only one series required three games to be played and that was #5 Desert Hills needing three games to get past #12 Cedar. Double elimination Bracket Play gets underway May 15-16 at BYU. The first game of the day on Monday will feature #4 Mountain Crest vs #5 Desert Hills at 12:30 p.m. followed by #8 Bear River taking on #1 Snow Canyon at 3 p.m. The winners of these two games will face each other at 8 p.m. on Tuesday, May 16; the losers of those games will have a much shorter turn around and will play each other at 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday. #7 Green Canyon will face #2 Crimson Cliffs at 5:30 p.m. and then #6 Ridgeline is scheduled to face #3 Dixie at 8 p.m. Teams which win in these later games will face each other at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, while those who lose
