LOGAN — Two guards committed to play for Utah State men’s basketball on Friday, high school guard Jaxon Smith and Southern Nazarene transfer Javon Jackson. The former will likely be a walk-on with the latter taking up what looks to be the final spot on head coach Danny Sprinkle’s year one roster. Smith prepped at Woods Cross High School in Utah. Across his junior and senior seasons, the 6’1″ guard averaged 14.8 points per game along with 2.9 rebounds and 2.4 assists. He shot 39.4 percent from the floor overall and 35.6 percent on 3-pointers. Smith led the Wildcats to a Region 5 title last year with a 9-1 region record and 18-5 overall mark. Jackson spent last year as a freshman at Southern Nazarene and was the team’s second-leading scorer at 15.8 points per game. The 6-foot-3 guard led the team in assists at 2.8 per game and was one of the team’s better 3-point shooters making 39.4 percent of his downtown attempts. Jackson earned the Great American Conference Freshman of the Year award along with being named to the GAC First Team. He was also named Southern Nazarene’s Male Newcomer
