The Utah Jazz traditionally don’t play home games on Sundays out of respect to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, known widely as the Mormon church. About 60% of Utah residents are Mormons. But the Jazz are hosting the All-Star Game. The team said it didn’t have discussions with church officials about the plans to bring the All-Star Game to Utah. The NBA awarded Salt Lake City the game in

With Aggie legends in the stands, Utah State rallies from 21 down to beat Nevada – Cache Valley Daily

LOGAN – When Jaycee Carroll came out onto the court at halftime to have his No. 20 jersey honored, the scoreboard showed his beloved Aggies down by 15 points, 47-32. A mere 19 minutes of game time later, Carroll and the rest of the Aggie greats in attendance – including Sam Merrill, Tai Wesley, Gary Wilkinson, Tyler Newbold, and Stew Morrill – were graced with the familiar “winning team, losing team” chant as USU closed out a 75-66 win over the Wolf Pack. “Disaster” may not quite fully describe the first four minutes of the game. Nevada opened up the game with a 22-4 run, all of it powered by the offense of one player: Will Baker. The junior center scored the first 22 points for the Wolf Pack, going 7-for-7 from the field including 6-for-6 from three. “I’ve never seen that before, personally. Respect to him for making them,” graduate guard RJ Eytle-Rock said. “We just didn’t quite get there close enough in time. He made some tough ones.” “I’ve coached a long time as an assistant and a head coach. I’ve never seen anything like that,” USU head coach Ryan Odom said. The rest of the Nevada players fed off

The final RPI rankings and 4A playoff schedule from the Utah High School Activities Association were revealed Saturday morning, with the Ridgeline girls (22-0) and the Sky View boys (20-2) basketball teams ranked 1st. Utah State gymnastics records season-high 196.175 in loss to No. 21 Southern Utah – Cache Valley Daily

Photo by Robert K. Scott LOGAN, Utah – What a difference a week can make. After recording its season-low score against Boise State last week, Utah State enjoyed its best outing of the season with a season-high 196.175 against No. 21 Southern Utah on Friday night at the Dee Glen Smith Spectrum. The Thunderbirds won the Mountain Rim Gymnastics Conference dual meet with a 197.125. “I am really excited for our student-athletes,” said first-year Utah State head coach Kristin White. “This team has been through a lot these last six or seven weeks, having to change the lineup every week because of some sort of adversity that we faced. For them to come out tonight and just believe in the six athletes we had competing on each event was amazing.” The announced crowd of 3,299 was a season high for the Aggies (1-7, 1-6 MRGC) and the 16th-largest in school history. “It was so exciting,” said Utah State junior all-arounder Brianna Brooks. “Just seeing the amount of people was crazy. I loved it.” White agreed. “To have that kind of support from our fans is amazing,” she said. “Aggie Nation is incredible with all of our student-athletes and all of our
