Jared Anderson named CVMG Prep Basketball Player of the Week – Cache Valley Daily

LOGAN – Green Canyon guard Jared Anderson has been named the Cache Valley Media Group Prep Basketball Player of the Week – presented by McDonalds – for the first week of the new year.

In two games last week, Anderson averaged 23.5 points and 4.0 rebounds for the Wolves who went 1-1 in those games. Anderson scored a season-high 32 points in Green Canyon’s close 57-56 loss to Bonneville, which also saw the junior make a season-high seven 3-pointers and grab seven rebounds. In his other game, Anderson scored 15 points in Green Canyon’s 52-41 win over Judge Memorial.

Five other players were nominated for this week’s award: Cambree Tensmeyer (Green Canyon girls), Gracie Riley (Bear River girls), Jordan Child (Logan boys), Kyver Jensen (Bear River boys) and Tanner Davis (Sky View boys). Tensmeyer scored 20 points in the one game the Green Canyon girls played (a 74-55 win over Box Elder). Riley recorded her seventh double-double of the year with 13 points, 11 rebounds and also a season-high six steals. Child scored 23 points in Logan’s win over Northridge and then 14 in the team’s loss to Box Elder. Jensen scored 25 points in Bear River’s win over Judge Memorial. Davis had 25 points in Sky View’s win over Bonneville.

Candidates for the Player of the Week award were nominated by Cache Valley Media Group staff and then voted on by all high school broadcast crew members, including “Hurricane” John Newbold, Jason Walker, Clint Payne, Dave Simmons, “The Patriot” Nick Zollinger, Jake Ellis, “The Coach” John Olsen, Cade Forest, Terrell Baldwin, Trent Carter and Eric Frandsen.
