Mitchell scores 46 in Utah return, but Jazz rally past Cavs – Cache Valley Daily

(AP Photo/Rick Bowmer) SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Donovan Mitchell had 46 points in his return to Utah, but the Jazz rallied late behind Jordan Clarkson to beat the Cleveland Cavaliers 116-114 on Tuesday night. Clarkson scored 32 points, including five 3-pointers, and poured in nine straight down the stretch to fuel a decisive 13-0 run. Lauri Markkanen had 25 points and 16 rebounds against his former team for the Jazz. Malik Beasley, Mike Conley and Nickeil Alexander-Walker added 13 apiece as Utah won for just the second time in nine games. Mitchell, who spent his first five seasons with the Jazz, also had six assists, five rebounds and three steals. The three-time All-Star was traded to Cleveland in September for a blockbuster package that included Markkanen. Mitchell set a Cleveland record with 71 points on Jan. 2, most by an NBA player in 17 years, as the Cavaliers rallied to beat Chicago in overtime. Jared Anderson named CVMG Prep Basketball Player of the Week – Cache Valley Daily

Photo by Lorene Hale LOGAN – Green Canyon guard Jared Anderson has been named the Cache Valley Media Group Prep Basketball Player of the Week – presented by McDonalds – for the first week of the new year. In two games last week, Anderson averaged 23.5 points and 4.0 rebounds for the Wolves who went 1-1 in those games. Anderson scored a season-high 32 points in Green Canyon’s close 57-56 loss to Bonneville, which also saw the junior make a season-high seven 3-pointers and grab seven rebounds. In his other game, Anderson scored 15 points in Green Canyon’s 52-41 win over Judge Memorial. Five other players were nominated for this week’s award: Cambree Tensmeyer (Green Canyon girls), Gracie Riley (Bear River girls), Jordan Child (Logan boys), Kyver Jensen (Bear River boys) and Tanner Davis (Sky View boys). Tensmeyer scored 20 points in the one game the Green Canyon girls played (a 74-55 win over Box Elder).
