LOGAN, Utah – Utah State’s 2022 Mountain West football schedule was announced Wednesday by the conference office as the Aggies look to defend their league title from last year.

Utah State, which is entering its 10th season in the MW, will play eight conference games over a 10-week period from Sept. 24 through Nov. 26.

Wednesday’s release represents the first phase in the 2022 football schedule process. Mountain West national television partners CBS Sports and Fox Sports will now initiate a selection procedure, which will include the shifting of particular games to non-Saturday dates. That will be followed by the identification of network outlets and kick times.

Utah State’s 2022 Mountain West schedule will include home games against UNLV (9/24), Air Force (10/8), New Mexico (11/5) and San José State (11/19), and road games against Colorado State (10/15), Wyoming (10/22), Hawai’i (11/12) and Boise State (11/26). USU will also have two byes during the season, the first on the third weekend of September following its third game, and the second on the final weekend of October following its 10th game of the year.

Utah State will start the 2022 season by playing four of its first six games at home, before concluding the regular season with four of its final six games away from Maverik Stadium. USU will also have back-to-back home games once during the season and play consecutive road games one time.

Utah State opens the season with three straight non-conference games as it hosts Connecticut on Saturday, Aug. 27, plays at 2021 national runner-up Alabama on Saturday, Sept. 3, and hosts Weber State on Saturday, Sept. 10. The Aggies and Huskies will be meeting for the first time since 2001 and second time overall, while USU’s matchup with the Crimson Tide will be the third in series history and first since 2005. USU will also be facing the Wildcats for the 16th time overall and for the first time since 2016.

After utilizing its first bye of the season, Utah State starts conference play at home as it hosts UNLV on Saturday, Sept. 24. The Aggies will be facing the Rebels for the 26th time in what is the 16th-most played rivalry in school history. Overall, it will be the fifth time that USU begins MW play at home as the Aggies are 7-2 all-time in MW openers, including a 3-1 home record.

Following its league opener, Utah State will conclude the non-conference portion of its schedule with a road game at BYU on Friday, Sept. 30. The Aggies have faced the Cougars 90 previous times, in what is the second-oldest rivalry in school history.

Utah State then returns to MW play as it hosts Air Force on Saturday, Oct. 8, in its only home game of the month. It will be the 11th all-time meeting between the two programs.

Back-to-back road games are in store for Utah State the next two weekends as it plays at Colorado State and at Wyoming on Saturday, Oct. 15, and Saturday, Oct. 22. USU will be facing the Rams for the 78th time, in what is the Aggies’ third-oldest rivalry, while its game against the Cowboys will be the 72nd meeting, which is the fourth-oldest rivalry in school history.

As the calendar turns to November, Utah State will utilize its second bye during the first weekend of the month, before hosting New Mexico on Saturday, Nov. 5, and playing at Hawai’i on Saturday, Nov. 12. The Lobos are USU’s 12th-oldest rivalry with 28 previous meetings, while its matchup with the Rainbow Warriors will be the 18th in series history.

Utah State will then host San José State in its home finale on Saturday, Nov. 19, before concluding the regular season at Boise State on Saturday, Nov. 26. USU will be facing the Spartans for the 41st time, in what is the fifth-most played series in school history, while the Broncos are USU’s 15th-oldest rivalry with 26 previous meetings.

The 2022 schedule will play out over 15 weeks, concluding on Saturday, Dec. 3, with the Mountain West Championship Game to be played at the home stadium of the highest-ranked of the two divisional champions.

The 2022 Mountain West football membership includes Air Force, Boise State, Colorado State, New Mexico, Utah State and Wyoming in the Mountain Division and Fresno State, Hawai’i, Nevada, San Diego State, San José State and UNLV in the West Division.
