Logan High School names new football coach – Cache Valley Daily

LOGAN – The Logan High School football team has a new head coach, Carson Mund. The 31-year old with 11 years of coaching experience was introduced to the team Wednesday afternoon, speaking with his players for the first time. Mund, a graduate of Box Elder High School, began his coaching career at his alma mater in 2010 and has spent a combined (though not completely consecutive) five seasons with the Bees as an assistant coach, including the 2022 season. He also served as an assistant at Weber in 2015 and 2020 and at Logan from 2016-17. From 2019 to 2020 Mund was the head coach of West Jordan where he had an overall record of 8-14 in two seasons. Most of Mund’s assignments as an assistant have been on the offensive side of the ball, including being an offensive coordinator, although Mund has also coached defense at times. When asked

Hannah Radford earns first CVMG Prep Basketball Player of the Week award – Cache Valley Daily

SMITHFIELD – Following a career game last week, Sky View guard Hannah Radford has been named Cache Valley Media Group Prep Basketball Player of the Week, presented by McDonalds. In the one game Sky View played last week, Radford scored a career-high 27 points in the Bobcats’ 66-46 win over Bear River. Radford led all scorers across boys and girls games last week, helped along by the fact she went a perfect 5-for-5 on 3-pointers. The five made threes was also a career-high for senior. To those points and threes, Radford added five rebounds and three assists. Three others were nominated for this week’s Player of the Week: Carson Cox (Ridgeline boys), Emilee Skinner (Ridgeline girls), and Jordan Child (Logan boys). Cox scored 20 points to lead the boys team’s win over Green Canyon. Skinner also had 20 points in the girls team’s win over Green Canyon while also grabbing 15 rebounds. Child scored 21 points in Logan’s thrilling win over Mountain Crest. Region 11 RPI remains largely unchanged in girls and boys basketball – Cache Valley Daily

The one difference is that the Bear River Bears boys basketball team dropped one spot after their loss on Friday against the top-ranked Sky View Bobcats. In Randolph, the Rich Rebels reclaimed the top spot to join the Sky View boys and Ridgeline girls as the top teams in the state for their respective classifications. The conference tournaments are also underway in Idaho for girls basketball with a showdown Monday night between West Side and Bear Lake. The Bears of Bear Lake (4-16) came into the conference tournament ranked #17 in 2A girls basketball while West Side (14-6) was ranked #6. Bear Lake lost to #2 Soda Springs (17-4) in the opening round but surprised #9 Malad (11-10) on Saturday. Emilee Skinner wins third CVMG Prep Basketball Player of the Week award – Cache Valley Daily

MILLVILLE – For the third time this season, Ridgeline star guard Emilee Skinner has been named Cache Valley Media Group Prep Basketball Player of the Week, presented by McDonalds. Two of those career-highs came on Jan. 25 against Mountain Crest with Skinner breaking her personal bests in points (34) and 3-pointers made (six). Her new season high in steals (seven) also came in this game. Against Mountain Crest, Skinner also grabbed 10 rebounds to record her fifth double-double of the season. In her second game of the week, Skinner was less involved in scoring with just 15 points but did block four shots for her third new career-high of the week. Across the two games this week, Skinner averaged 24.5 points, 5.5 rebounds, 3.0 assists, 4.5 steals and 2.0 blocks. In winning the award this week Skinner is not only the only athlete to win CVMG Player of the Week three times, but remains the only athlete to win it multiple times in a season. Top-ranked basketball teams in 4A remain in Region 11 – Cache Valley Daily

MILLVILLE – The highest ranked girls and boys basketball teams in 4A remain in Region 11, with Sky View retaining the top spot for boys and Ridgeline claiming the top ranking for girls in the latest RPI rankings released by the Utah High School Activities Association. The Riverhawks (17-0, 5-0) are still the only team among all 4A teams to remain undefeated. The other thing that remains the same, in fact, are all the rankings for Region 11 girls basketball teams from the previous week. There was some slight movement in the boys rankings among Region 11 teams with Green Canyon dropping one spot and Bear River dropping three. Region 11 teams have somewhat of a rest week as they will only play one game as the schedule resets. Each team has gone through the region schedule and now they will play everyone in the region again, just at the alternate venue from each team’s first meeting. Oliver Nethercott named CVMG Prep Basketball Player of the Week – Cache Valley Daily

HYRUM – Mountain Crest boys basketball guard Oliver Nethercott continued a great run of form en route to winning this week’s Cache Valley Media Group Prep Basketball Player of the Week, presented by McDonalds. Oliver Nethercott. Photo by Tina Lerohl In his two region games this week, Nethercott put up back-to-back 20 point games with 25 and then 22. He played every minute in both games for the Mustangs, including the double-overtime win over Green Canyon where he tallied 25 points, six rebounds, three assists, four steals, one block and only two turnovers. He made eight 3-pointers throughout the week which included tying his season-high of five threes in one game against the Wolves. Since the start of region play Nethercott has averaged 22.3 points – most among all Region 11 players – while shooting 49 percent from the field and 48 percent from three and averaging 5.3 rebounds and 2.0 assists per game. Four other players were nominated this week – Emilee Skinner (Ridgeline girls), Jordan Child (Logan boys), Logan Deal (Sky View boys) and Maren McKenna (Green Canyon girls).
