Final 4A RPI, playoff matchups revealed for Baseball, Softball and Boys Volleyball | Sports

Three different high school sports — baseball, softball and boys volleyball — will begin their respective postseasons this weekend. To that end, the final RPI was released by the UHSAA on Wednesday, which establishes each team’s placement in the playoff brackets. Here’s where each of the local high schools – Sky View, Green Canyon, Bear River, Logan, Ridgeline and Mountain Crest – ended up in the RPI in each of these sports, along with their respective first-round matchups in the playoffs. Baseball 4A Baseball Playoffs Bracket Final RPI Placement Ridgeline (21-4) – #3 Bear River (17-7) – #7 Mountain Crest (15-7) – #9 Green Canyon (5-19) – #22 Logan (5-16) – #23 Sky View (5-16) – #24 Regionals (First Round) All games in regionals will take place on Friday and Saturday, featuring a three-game series with game one on Friday and games two and three (if necessary) on Saturday. Utah State’s Bill Garren named Mountain West Video Coordinator of the Year | Sports

LOGAN, Utah – The Collegiate Sports Video Association named Bill Garren, Assistant Athletics Director for Video Operations at Utah State University, the 2024-2025 Mountain West Conference Video Coordinator of the Year. Garren was selected by his peers in the Mountain West to receive the Conference Video Coordinator of the Year honor.  He is now a finalist for the prestigious Bob Matey National Video Coordinator of the Year award, which will be announced at the annual CSVA banquet on May 21st, 2025, in Houston, Texas. The Bob Matey award is presented to the Video Coordinator who displays innovation, determination, perseverance and technical skill as portrayed by the late Bob Matey, legendary Video Coordinator from Texas A&M. Bill Garren is in his 19th year as the Director of Video Operations for the Utah State athletics department and was promoted to Assistant Athletics Director for Video Operations in 2016. Garren is responsible for managing all aspects of athletic video and editing within the athletics department, which includes training and supervising a staff of student assistants to shoot all the football practices and games. At the end of Saturday’s post-game press conference for Nate Dreiling, the interim head coach was asked a question about a small part of Utah State’s 49-28 loss to Washington State. It was a loss that ended the Aggies’ hopes at a bowl game and pushes them into the wrong end of recent history as the 2024 USU football team will be one of just three squads to not finish with at least six wins. But with one question, Dreiling got to smile as he spoke about the final snap for the team on offense. It didn’t change the game. It certainly didn’t change the season. It didn’t even impact whether the Aggies covered the spread. What it did change was the demeanor of a few players and coaches. That play was the first career carry of running back Derrick Jameson. 130 student athletes from throughout Northern Utah receive Academic All-State awards | Sports

The Utah High School Activities Association (UHSAA) recently revealed its Academic All-State Teams for spring sports (boys tennis, girls golf, boys and girls lacrosse, boys soccer, girls and boys track and field, boys volleyball, baseball, softball), as well as Instrumental Music, Speech and Debate, Vocal Music and Theatre. Hundreds of students were recognized from around the state for the accomplishments in the classroom and in competition. “Since 1927, the UHSAA has led the development of education-based interscholastic athletic and fine arts activities that help students succeed in their lives,” says UHSAA Executive Director Robert Cuff. “The belief is these activities are an essential part of the high school experience and go a long way to improving academic performance and producing better citizens.” Students are nominated based on their unweighted cumulative high school GPA, ACT/SAT score and are varsity contributors.
