Cooper Legas joins McCae Hillstead in entering transfer portal | Sports

LOGAN — Where once Utah State had four quarterbacks with Division I starting experience, the Aggies are down to just two after Cooper Legas chose to enter the transfer portal Wednesday. He joins soon-to-be-former teammate McCae Hillstead who announced his portal entry a day before the official April 16 opening of the spring window. Legas spent five seasons in Logan, redshirting in 2019 and not appearing in any games in 2020. He made his career debut in 2021 against New Mexico, but later in the LA Bowl against Oregon State he famously threw a 62-yard touchdown to Deven Thompkins on his first career pass attempt. He went on to complete 11 of 20 passes for 171 yards and two touchdowns in the eventual Aggie victory that capped the program’s third 11-win season in its history. Over the next two seasons, Legas’ time on the field was inconsistent, due to both injuries and being benched in favor of his backups. In 2022 he took over for Logan Bonner mid-season, making his first career start against BYU, but would miss most of the team’s matchups with Colorado State, Wyoming and Memphis due to different injuries. The 2023 season would prove even more

Spring 2024 Utah State football transfer tracker | Sports

The second football transfer portal window is now open. Utah State survived the first window quite well, especially relative to how it fared in the 2022-23 offseason. This window opened April 16 and will close on April 30 with an exception for graduate transfers who are able to enter the portal after the deadline on the 30th. Check in here regularly to see the latest in who is coming and going for the Aggies. As a bit of a peek behind the curtain here. When Cache Valley Daily went through its recent makeover, my fall edition of this tracker basically got wiped because the format couldn’t be transferred. It’s actually still online, but it’s merely a skeleton that doesn’t contain the full list of transfers. And I didn’t back up that data anywhere so I don’t have a copy of that list, only the numbers that still appear on the husk of that article which remains. But I can still quickly summarize how many left, which key players left, and also who committed to staying. Fall/Winter Portal Window Summary Graduated/Retired: 10 Transfers IN: 21 Transfers OUT: 25 Starters that transferred: Ralph Frias (OL), Devin Dye (S) Players that committed to

Without Curry, Green, the Warriors beat the Jazz 123-116 and wind up with the 10th seed in the West | Sports

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — Steve Kerr firmly believes his team still has a shot to make a splash this postseason — facing a familiar foe to start the uphill quest. Klay Thompson scored 25 points with six 3-pointers, Andrew Wiggins added 19 points, and the Golden State Warriors beat the Utah Jazz 123-116 in the regular-season finale Sunday and wound up with the 10th spot in the Western Conference. “We have a really good connection on this team, good chemistry, guys pulling for each other. So I’ve got a good feeling about what’s ahead,” Kerr said. “I think we still have a chance to do something special. Now, obviously, it’s NCAA Tournament, we’ve got to get out of the first weekend here, win the first two and get to the first round, but we have a shot, so we’re excited about that.” With the Lakers winning at New Orleans and the Kings beating Portland at home, Golden State will head to Sacramento on Tuesday as the No. 10 seed to face the ninth-seeded Kings in the Play-In Tournament. The Warriors won a thrilling first-round playoff series last year against their Northern California rival with Stephen Curry scoring 50 in the

Full Breakdown on USU’s new point guard, Deyton Albury | Sports

Utah State now has its first incoming transfer under new head coach Jerrod Calhoun, coming in the wake of having seven of its players enter the transfer portal this spring (six of whom are still in said portal). The now former Queens point guard Deyton Albury will take his talents to the west to don the Aggie Blue and Fighting White. A bit of background on Albury, he’s a 6-foot-2, 190-pound native of Nassau, Bahamas. In 2020 he graduated high school at Sunrise Christian in Kansas. Albury didn’t make the jump to college quite yet first attending a post-high school basketball academy, Believe Prep. His path then took him to Chipola College for two seasons and finally he played the 2023-24 season at Queens University at the Division I level. In one year with the Royals, he started 28 of 32 games, averaging 17.0 points, 5.8 rebounds, 3.7 assists, 1.2 steals and was named Third Team All A-Sun along with being named the conference’s Newcomer of the Year. It’s been quite the journey for Albury, but his talent has led him on a predictable climb up the basketball ranks. The thing that jumps off the page with Albury immediately when you watch

Coyotes sale to Utah Jazz owner expected next week, Arizona to get expansion team, AP source says | Sports

TEMPE. Ariz. (AP) — The Arizona Coyotes will likely be sold to Utah Jazz owner Ryan Smith shortly after the team’s final game and will include a provision guaranteeing current owner Alex Meruelo an expansion team if a new arena is built within five years, a person with knowledge of the deal told The Associated Press on Saturday. The $1 billion sale is expected to happen between the Coyotes’ final game of the 2023-24 season on Wednesday and the start of the playoffs on Saturday, barring unforeseen circumstances, the person said on condition of anonymity because the planned deal has not been announced. The deal will transfer the franchise’s hockey operations first to the NHL and then to Smith, who plans to move the team to Salt Lake City, and Meruelo will maintain business operations to move forward with a planned $3 billion project that will include a new arena in north Phoenix. Meruelo also will continue to own the Tucson Roadrunners, the franchise’s AHL affiliate, and plans to move the team to Mullett Arena in Tempe, the current temporary home of the Coyotes. Once an arena is built, Meruelo will pay back the $1 billion and move forward with
