The last time Utah State took on Wyoming, it was shortly after the Aggies had gone on a two-game skid with losses at Grand Canyon and vs UNLV. Now, USU is very much on the upswing, having won four consecutive games, including over fellow contenders San Diego State and New Mexico.
One of those four wins was against Wyoming itself, a 94-62 domination that set multiple records for the 70-year series between the two sides, and Utah State will look to try and replicate the successes from that game on Saturday.
Here’s all of the necessary info ahead of this game for the Aggies.

Availability Report
The following is drawn from the official availability reports posted by the Mountain West. Per-game stats, if applicable, are included in parenthesis.
UTAH STATE
- Zach Keller (2.2 pts, 1.8 reb) – QUESTIONABLE
WYOMING
- Matija Belic (5.5 pts, 4.5 reb) – OUT
- Jared Harris (4.0 pts, 2.4 reb) – OUT
- Abou Magassa (3.3 pts, 3.2 reb) – QUESTIONABLE
- Gavin Gores (6.5 pts, 3.4 reb) – QUESTIONABLE
For the first time in quite a while, Utah State has a player listed on the availability report. Keller has started each of the last 13 games, but rolled his ankle while fighting for a rebound in the Aggies’ win over New Mexico on Wednesday. The senior forward returned to the bench without a visible brace or even ice on his ankle, but did not go back in the game despite USU’s other bigs facing serious foul trouble. If Keller can’t play, or is limited, it’s very likely that Karson Templin will start in his place with Garry Clark playing all other center minutes.
Utah State Keys to Victory
Be ready for Wyoming to throw unexpected looks on defense
Last time out, Wyoming used a zone defense for most of the game. To put it lightly, it didn’t work out. Utah State hit 13 3-pointers, which probably caught the Cowboys off guard. USU had, after all, shot just 28% from three in the four games prior to taking on Wyoming. Making the Aggies beat them by 3-point shooting by employing a zone probably sounded like a good idea until the Cowboys watched USU drop more than a dozen triples on them.
The Cowboys kept up the zone defense pretty much all game in a vain hope things would get better, but on Saturday it’s fairly likely they’ll be throwing new defensive looks. If the Aggies aren’t ready, they could find themselves in a dogfight and needing to generate offense in unexpected ways.
Keep up physicality and rebounding from the last three games
Rebounding has been a major focus for the Aggies in the last couple of weeks as they’ve gone into and out of a slump. And over the last three games, as it has emerged from that slump, Utah State has out-rebounded opponents by nearly five rebounds per game (34.7 to 29.0). Wyoming is one of the best rebounding teams in the nation and will present a challenge for the Aggies in that regard. Last time out, Utah State and Wyoming were even in the rebounding battle (28 apiece) and that was something that could be counted as a minor win as the Aggies didn’t let the Cowboys flex one of their strengths.
Stay out of foul trouble (especially the bigs)
Wyoming has consistently been a solid team at drawing fouls, ranking 74th in free throw rate. Normally, this is a minor emphasis but not a huge one. But since the Aggies might be down their starting center, and only two bigs available behind him, they can hardly avoid to be sitting guys for long stints to wait out foul trouble. Karson Templin and especially Garry Clark, have to play without fouling on defense. That could be a lot to ask when playing on the road against a potentially guard-heavy lineup, but such is the nature of college basketball. You’ve got to do things that are a lot to ask of you.
