LOGAN — Broc Lane kicks off the second edition of the Cache Valley Media Group Top 25 Aggies. The junior tight end is entering his fourth season with Utah State for what will hopefully be his breakout season.
In high school, Lane earned an Arizona Class 6A Premier first team all-region selection at tight end as a senior. That season he caught 23 passes for 265 yards and five touchdowns. He was ranked as a three-star recruit coming out of high school and has spent his whole collegiate career with the Aggies. He appeared in four games as a freshman, playing limited snaps but missed the entire 2021 season with injury.
In 2022, Lane appeared in nine games, playing a total of 181 offensive snaps. He caught six passes for 39 yards throughout the season. One of those catches would be Lane’s only touchdown of the season, a 16-yard reception against Hawaii on Nov. 12. It put the Aggies up 17-7 in the second quarter of a game USU went on to win 41-34.
Lane figures to be at least in the regular rotation at tight end, either as a starter or snap-getting backup. His athletic prowess will make him a potentially dangerous downfield target, and with his 6-foot-5 frame he’ll be a large target.
Staff members of the Cache Valley Media Group who regularly cover and follow Utah State football submitted ballots to determine who the top players are on this year’s Aggie football team. The rankings were comprised of ballots submitted by Eric Frandsen, Jason Walker, Al Lewis, Craig Hislop and Ajay Salvesen. Ballots were tabulated and a Top 25 list of the most impactful players for this upcoming season are revealed one at a time during the Full Court Press program on 106.9 The FAN. The countdown began on July 21st with a new player revealed each day at 4:25 p.m. leading up to August 25th, counting down from 25 to 1.
