NORMAN, Oklahoma – Utah State men’s tennis fell to No. 9 Oklahoma, 4-0, in the opening round of the NCAA Men’s Tennis Championship on Friday at the Headington Family Tennis Center. The Aggies end the season at 19-6 overall with the program’s third-ever appearance at the NCAA Championship. Doubles Facing a lineup that featured the nation’s fifth-ranked doubles team at the No. 1 position, the Aggies fought but ultimately surrendered the 1-0 lead to begin the match as Oklahoma took wins at the top two positions. At court three, sophomores Roman Venger and Eliot Nobel held a 5-4 lead at the time the doubles point was clinched. Singles The competition remained stiff in singles play as USU faced four singles players ranked in the top 100 of the latest ITA rankings. At the No. 1 spot versus the 25th-ranked player in the nation, senior Jean-Baptiste Badon led, 5-4, in the second set in a bid to force a third frame. At court three, Venger registered the lone set victory for USU, earning a 7-6 (5) first-set victory over the 68th-ranked player in the nation.
