LOGAN — Utah State fans got more basketball than they paid for and more excitement than perhaps they were expecting in a Saturday afternoon matchup with Montana State. The visiting Bobcats, whom the Aggies were favored to beat by nearly 20 points, pushed the game to overtime. And even in the final period, Montana State didn’t let the hosts rest until the clock had firmly hit zero and the scoreboard read 84-81 in favor of Utah State. The dominance that Utah State displayed in its two blowout wins during the Charleston Classic simply wasn’t present when the team reconvened in the Dee Glen Smith Spectrum. A team that had out-rebounded their opponents 63-44 across two games last week, lost Saturday’s battle on the glass 43-37. And after ranking in the 99th percentile on field goal percentage at the rim, Utah State shot a season-worst 44% (14 of 32) on layups. And although many other metrics for the Aggies were solid – such as having only 10 turnovers (tied for second-best mark on the season), shooting 47% from the field, 36% on 3-pointers and holding Montana State to 39% shooting – untimely spells of poor play nearly doomed the team. The undeniable
LAS VEGAS – Utah State volleyball was tested like they rarely had been during the entire 2025 Mountain West season. After dropping only 13 sets en route to an undefeated 18-0 record in conference play, the Aggies found themselves down 2-0 in the semifinals of the MW Tournament semifinals against Boise State on Friday afternoon at The Pavilion. Then, USU showcased the mettle of a championship program. The Aggies stormed back in the third set, staved off a feisty Bronco challenge in the fourth and ran away in the fifth to complete the reverse sweep in a 3-2 (25-27, 22-25, 25-20, 29-27, 15-9) victory to advance to the MW title game on Saturday, Nov. 29, at 4 p.m. (MT). Sophomore setter Kaylie Kofe led USU with a career-high-tying 65 assists, also tied for the fifth-most ever in the MW Tournament match and tying the record for underclassmen at the conference tournament. Sophomore outside hitter Andrea Simovski paced the Aggies with a season-high 26 kills on a .317 hitting percentage, also recording a double-double with 13 digs. Utah State also extended their overall winning streak to 20 matches, the third-longest streak in program history, trailing only a 23-game streak spanning
DALLAS (AP) — Mammoth captain Clayton Keller played for Utah in Friday night’s 4-3 loss to the Dallas Stars, one day after the unexpected death of his father. As a tribute, Keller was named the game’s first star. “He loves his teammates so much, and his teammates just love him so much,” Mammoth coach Andre Tourigny said. “He drives our passion and our competitiveness every night. He’s the kind of guy who wants to be better every night. We cannot have a better example of a captain.” The 27-year-old Keller has played all 10 of his NHL seasons with the Arizona-Utah franchise and was named captain before last season, when the club moved to Salt Lake City. The seventh overall pick in the 2016 draft and four-time All-Star was a 30-goal scorer each of the past three seasons, including career highs last season with 60 assists and 90 points. He went into Friday’s game second on the club with 21 points, including eight goals. “Obviously, Kell’s our leader in the locker room but also away from the rink. He’s done an incredible job leading us and guiding us,” Lawson Crouse said. “I’ve been with him for 10-plus years now. It’s
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Keyonte George scored 31 points and Lauri Markkanen added 28 to help the Utah Jazz snap a four-game skid with a 128-119 victory over the Sacramento Kings on Friday night. Brice Sensabaugh had 20 points for the Jazz, who finished 1-3 in NBA Cup group play. Russell Westbrook, the NBA leader in triple-doubles, had the 206th of his career with 16 points, a season-high 14 assists and 12 rebounds for Sacramento, which went winless in four NBA Cup games. Zach LaVine led the Kings with 34 points, and Keegan Murray had 23 points and nine rebounds. Trailing by 11 at halftime, Sacramento trimmed the deficit to 67-65 on a 3-pointer from Murray but got no closer. George hit back-to-back 3-pointers and followed with a floater to help Utah regain a double-digit lead. The Jazz closed the third quarter on a 10-0 run, capped by Jusuf Nurkic’s layup for a 90-73 lead. Utah held Sacramento without a field goal for six minutes on its way to building a double-digit lead early in the second quarter. Markkanen made three baskets and hit a pair of free throws to fuel a 20-2 run that put the Jazz up
