Michael Brennan wins Utah Championship on an invitation and gets 2-year PGA Tour exemption | Sports

IVINS, Utah (AP) — Michael Brennan was just as dominant at Black Desert as he was on the PGA Tour Americas. He closed with a 5-under 66 to go from a sponsor exemption to a PGA Tour winner Sunday with his four-shot victory in the Bank of Utah Championship. In his first PGA Tour start as a professional, Brennan became the first sponsor exemption to win since Nick Dunlap took The American Express in January 2024 as an amateur. “Been my dream for a very long time to play on the PGA Tour and win on the PGA Tour,” Brennan said. “So, yeah, it feels amazing to do it. Just very thankful to even be in the field this week. I mean, ended up pretty good.” The victory means Brennan, a 23-year-old who starred at Wake Forest, gets to skip the Korn Ferry Tour next year and go straight to the big leagues. He earned a two-year exemption on the PGA Tour, along with a spot in the PGA Championship and the $20 million RBC Heritage. Brennan was No. 451 in the world when he left the South America portion of the PGA Tour Americas. But he was dominant in

Mammoth return to ancestral stomping grounds on a Western Conference rampage | Sports

WINNIPEG, Manitoba (AP) — The Utah Mammoth returned to their ancestral stomping grounds Sunday night on a Western Conference rampage. Dylan Guenther broke a late tie and the Mammoth — a spin-off of the World Hockey Association-born version of the Winnipeg Jets via Arizona — beat the current Jets club 3-2 on Sunday night for their seventh straight victory. “It’s great,” Guenther said. “Winning’s fun and we’re playing a lot of games, too. We’ll just continue to keep it rolling and enjoy this one a bit and get ready for the next one.” Guenther had his fourth winning goal of the season and has seven points in his last five games. He pointed to the Mammoth netminders. “That’s the biggest part of your team, really, is your goaltending,” Guenther said. “They’ve been unbelievable.” Vitek Vanecek made 28 saves to stave off the Jets. On Saturday night in Minnesota, Karel Vejmelka stopped 32 shot in a 6-2 victory. “Good performance by V (Vanecek),” Utah coach Andre Tourigny said. “First, he made a key save at a key moment. Ass well as our fourth line, I think, gave us a lot of energy.” Tourigny also credited the change in his players’ outlook

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — Logan Cooley scored twice in the first 3:29, Nick Schmaltz also had two goals and the Utah Mammoth won their sixth straight game, beating the Minnesota Wild 6-2 on Saturday night. Two days after scoring a first-period hat trick at St. Louis, Cooley opened the scoring Saturday with a goal 56 seconds in. The former University of Minnesota star backhanded the puck out of midair and past Wild goalie Filip Gustavsson for an early 1-0 lead. Cooley netted his second goal of the game on the power play at the 3:29 mark of the first period. Cooley and Utah took advantage of a slashing penalty to Minnesota’s Yakov Trenin. The Mammoth went up 3-0 less than two minutes later when Schmaltz scored his sixth goal of the season just shy of five minutes into the game. Wild veteran Marcus Johansson single-handedly got his team back in the game with a pair goals. Johansson put Minnesota on the board with a one-timer from Zeev Buium with 4:21 left in the first. Johansson, who entered the game with just one goal this season, notched his second on the power play late in the second period. Johansson received
