Green Bay Packers quarterback Jordan Love came in at No. 68 in the NFL Top 100 list as announced yesterday by the NFL. The list, voted on by the league’s players is released annually. This is the second year in a row the former Utah State signal-caller has been ranked on the list, following him being at No. 34 in 2024.
Love falling 34 spots from his 2024 ranking is a reflection of his struggles last year relative to his breakout campaign in 2023. Two years ago, Love threw for 4,159 yards, 32 touchdowns then threw for just 3,389 yards and 25 touchdowns in the most recent season. Though part of his lower performance is due to a knee injury Love suffered in Week 1, which held him out of two games.
“That knee injury held back Jordan Love,” said an anonymous NFL scout to Yahoo Sports. “He was on course for a really big year if not for the time he missed. It looked like he rushed himself back a little bit too soon.”
A full offseason to heal would just about alone give Love a chance to return to his 2023 form. However, the Packers haven’t been sitting back and hoping Love will do all the work himself. Green Bay’s front office has made a host of moves to improve the weapons and protection around Love.
In the NFL Draft, the Packers picked wide receivers in the first and third round (Matthew Golden and Savion Williams) and signed free agent Mecole Hardman to add a veteran presence. In the second round, they drafted an offensive lineman, Anthony Belton. Furthermore, they signed Aaron Banks to replace center Josh Myers on the interior offensive line.
Green Bay will also return All-Pro running back Josh Jacobs, who is coming off a season where he ran for 1,329 yards and a career-best 15 touchdowns, pairing that production with 36 receptions for 342 receiving yards and another touchdown.
Not all is going flawlessly for the Packers’ offense, such as the injury to Christian Watson in Week 18 last season. The 26-year old pass-catcher, who tallied 620 yards as the third-leading receiver on the team last year, tore his ACL and isn’t expected back until November. Though even on that front, there has been some recent optimism.
With some luck, it’s possible Love could enter the discussion to win MVP this season. He has already become a relatively common underdog pick for analysts and bettors to be the next MVP of the league.
