LOGAN, Utah — Utah State University football placed ninth in the Mountain West preseason poll announced this week at the conference’s annual media days in Las Vegas. The Aggies’ senior safety Ike Larsen also earned a spot on the Preseason All-Mountain West Team.
USU enters the 2025 season under new leadership, as head coach Bronco Mendenhall returns to the Mountain West after previous stints with BYU and New Mexico. Mendenhall is among four new head coaches in the league this season.
Boise State, the defending conference champion and 2024 College Football Playoff quarterfinalist, was again selected as the preseason favorite, earning 35 of 39 first-place votes. UNLV, which fell to Boise State in last year’s title game, received the other four first-place votes and placed second in the poll.
The preseason team features 28 players, and Larsen is the lone representative from Utah State. A senior from Smithfield, Utah, Larsen has been a consistent defensive force for the Aggies and is expected to anchor their secondary this season.
Utah State went 6-7 overall in 2024, finishing 4-4 in conference play. Under Mendenhall, the Aggies aim to climb the standings and contend for a spot in the 2025 Mountain West Championship Game, scheduled for Dec. 5 and broadcast nationally on FOX.
