Five players who at one point wore a Utah State men’s basketball uniform are participating in this year’s NBA Summer League. Those five being Steven Ashworth (Indiana), Darius Brown (Cleveland), Great Osobor (Houston), Max Shulga (Boston) and Josh Uduje (San Antonio).
Although all five played for the Aggies at some point, only one graduated from USU (Brown), with the others transferring away from Logan to finish their careers at a different school. Ashworth transferred to Creighton, Osobor to Washington, Shulga to VCU and Uduje to San Jose State.
Shulga is the lone player of the five to hear his name called on draft night. He was taken with the 57th overall pick in this year’s draft — officially by Orlando Magic, but the pick was traded on draft night to the Boston Celtics. The rest were undrafted this year (save for Brown who went undrafted last year).
This year will be Brown’s second appearance in the Summer League. Last year, in which he also played for Cleveland’s summer league team, he appeared in five games with one start. Brown averaged 15.8 minutes, scoring 7.2 points per game along with averages of 3.6 assists and 2.6 rebounds. He shot 60.9% from the field overall and 46.7% from three. Brown went on to spend the 2024-25 season with the Cleveland Charge, the Cavaliers’ G-League affiliate, and averaged 7.7 points, 5.1 assists, 3.7 rebounds in 29 games played (16 starts).
Uduje has already begun playing as the San Antonio Spurs have been participating in the California Classic Summer League. In two games so far, Uduje has played sparing minutes. He played six minutes on Saturday in his Summer League debut, scoring seven points and grabbing three rebounds. On Monday, he played just four minutes, scoring zero points and recording one rebound and two assists.
All five players will be on rosters for the Las Vegas Summer League, which will feature all 30 teams. The first games in Las Vegas will begin on Thursday, July 10.
