USU AD Diana Sabau reportedly leaving to take deputy AD job at Maryland | Sports

LOGAN – After serving for not quite two years as the athletics director at Utah State, Diana Sabau will reportedly be moving on to become the deputy AD at the University of Maryland according to collegead.com. Sabau officially took over on August 7, 2023 and led the athletics department through an eventful time in its history. Less than a year into her tenure, she played a leading role in the dismissal of football head coach Blake Anderson, deputy AD Jerry Bovee, and senior AD over women’s athletics Aimee Crosbie. Both Anderson and Bovee filed lawsuits against the university, with Bovee naming Sabau specifically in his wrongful termination and whistleblower lawsuit. Mere months after those firings made national headlines, Sabau led USU to one of its highest points in history as the school received an invite to the Pac-12. Throughout the eventful months, Sabau also directed significant fundraising efforts, including the Reach and Rise campaign seeking to raise $125 million. One year after the campaign’s start, it has raised $28 million toward that goal. During her tenure, she hired, and later extended, men’s basketball head coach Jerrod Calhoun along with hiring women’s head coach Wes Brooks. She also secured an extension

Five players with USU ties competing in NBA Summer League | Sports

Five players who at one point wore a Utah State men’s basketball uniform are participating in this year’s NBA Summer League. Those five being Steven Ashworth (Indiana), Darius Brown (Cleveland), Great Osobor (Houston), Max Shulga (Boston) and Josh Uduje (San Antonio). Although all five played for the Aggies at some point, only one graduated from USU (Brown), with the others transferring away from Logan to finish their careers at a different school. Ashworth transferred to Creighton, Osobor to Washington, Shulga to VCU and Uduje to San Jose State. Shulga is the lone player of the five to hear his name called on draft night. He was taken with the 57th overall pick in this year’s draft — officially by Orlando Magic, but the pick was traded on draft night to the Boston Celtics. The rest were undrafted this year (save for Brown who went undrafted last year). This year will be Brown’s second appearance in the Summer League. Last year, in which he also played for Cleveland’s summer league team, he appeared in five games with one start. Brown averaged 15.8 minutes, scoring 7.2 points per game along with averages of 3.6 assists and 2.6 rebounds. He shot 60.9% from

Grand Canyon to join Mountain West for 2025-26, a year earlier than expected | Sports

It had already been known for a while that Grand Canyon University was on its way to the Mountain West. However, instead of joining the conference in the 2026-27 season, the Antelopes will be part of the Mountain West starting this fall. The conference made the announcement Tuesday morning. Grand Canyon, which has been in the Western Athletic Conference (WAC) since it moved to Division I in 2013, previously announced its intention to move to the West Coast Conference by 2025. However, when the Mountain West sought to backfill its membership following the announcement that five of its members will move to the Pac-12, Grand Canyon switched its destination to the Mountain West. This change of heart presented some potential challenges including a still-ongoing legal challenge from the WCC. Another issue was where Grand Canyon would compete in the 2025-26 season. Moving conferences is typically a multi-year process and GCU’s announced move to the Mountain West came in November 2024. Typically, that would mean making the move in fall of 2026. But that would leave GCU without a home due to already giving notice of departure from the WAC by 2025. But the two sides have managed to make the
