Texas State will become the ninth member of the rebuilt Pac-12 and eighth football-playing school in the conference. The university’s board of directors approved the move in a Monday morning meeting in which they signed off on paying the $5 million exit fee from the Sun Belt and accepted the formal invite from the Pac-12 sent at the end of last week. Texas State and the Pac-12 announced the news publicly a few hours after the formal approval by TSU’s board. “We are extremely excited to welcome Texas State as a foundational member of the new Pac-12,” said Pac-12 Commissioner Teresa Gould in a press release. “Texas State has shown a commitment to competing and winning at the highest level as well as to providing student-athletes with a well-rounded college experience academically, athletically and socially. We look forward to seeing the Bobcats’ future trajectory continue to shine big and bright.” The Pac-12 had been searching for an eighth FBS team for its conference, even after agreeing to bring on five Mountain West institutions — Boise State, Colorado State, Fresno State, San Diego State and Utah State — as NCAA rules required the Pac-12 to have a minimum of eight in order

Buffalo Sabres trade Peterka to Utah Mammoth for Kesselring and Doan | Sports

BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) — The Buffalo Sabres’ long-anticipated offseason retooling began late Wednesday night with the team agreeing to trade forward JJ Peterka to the Utah Mammoth for forward Josh Doan and defenseman Michael Kesselring. Both teams announced the deal with Utah revealing it signed Peterka to a five-year contract worth $38.5 million. Peterka completed his rookie contract this season, and was eligible to become a restricted free agent next week. “There is a lot of excitement and positive momentum surrounding our team right now, and adding a player of J.J. Peterka’s caliber and offensive upside is another great step towards achieving our objectives as a group,” Mammoth president of hockey operations Chris Armstrong said. This is a major swap of young players all within their first three full seasons of NHL experience. The 23-year-old Peterka is coming off consecutive 25-plus goal seasons, including 27 this year with a career-best 68 points in 77 games. Doan, a 23-year-old winger, is the son of longtime Arizona Coyotes star Shane Doan, and his departure is the organization’s latest move that separates this Salt Lake City chapter from the past. He had seven goals and 19 points last season as a rookie. Kesselring,

Hornets acquire Collin Sexton from Jazz for Jusuf Nurkic, 2nd-round draft pick, AP source says | Sports

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) — The Charlotte Hornets acquired guard Collin Sexton from the Utah Jazz for center Jusuf Nurkic and a future second-round draft pick, a person familiar with the situation told The Associated Press on Sunday. The person spoke on condition of anonymity because the deal has not been made official by the NBA. Sexton, a seven-year NBA veteran, played in 63 games last season for the Jazz, averaging 18.4 points and 4.2 assists per game. His best NBA season came in 2020-21 when he averaged 24.3 points and 4.4 assists for the Cleveland Cavaliers. The Jazz drafted Walter Clayton in the first round and also have Isaiah Collier and Keyonte George in the backcourt, making Sexton expendable. Nurkic was acquired in a trade with the Suns last year, so this will mark his return to Utah. He played in 26 games and averaged 9.2 points for Charlotte. The move leaves the Hornets particularly thin at center. They traded away center Mark Williams on the first night of the NBA draft and also dealt away Nick Richards last year. That potentially leaves 6-foot-9 Moussa Diabate as the team’s starting center, although the team did draft 7-footer Creighton’s Ryan Kalkbrenner

Ace Bailey says he’s ‘blessed’ to be with the Jazz after he fell to them at No. 5 in the NBA draft | Sports

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Utah was not believed to be one of Ace Bailey’s preferred destinations to start his NBA career. Still, Bailey indicated Sunday that he never thought about holding out or forcing a trade after the Jazz drafted him No. 5 overall. Bailey reported to Utah after he was criticized for his approach to the pre-draft process, during which he refused to work out for teams interested in him. When asked during his introductory news conference if he considered not coming to Salt Lake City, he only expressed enthusiasm for being with the Jazz. “Just blessed to be in the position I am,” Bailey said. Before the draft, Bailey canceled a scheduled workout with Philadelphia and declined invitations from Charlotte and Utah to work out for them. That didn’t stop the Jazz from using their lottery pick on him anyway. Utah is betting the 18-year-old will unlock his potential and blossom into a prolific scorer. Utah Jazz drafted players, left to right, Ace Bailey, Walter Clayton Jr., John Tonje, and Austin Ainge, President of Basketball Operations for the Utah Jazz, pose together during the Utah Jazz player introduction press conference Sunday, June 29, 2025, in Salt Lake
