LOGAN – New Utah State football head coach Bronco Mendenhall is currently enjoying some of his last notable time off during the school’s spring break, spending the week on his property in Montana. On Monday, though, he joined the Full Court Press on 106.9 FM / 1390 AM The FAN with Eric Frandsen and Jason Walker to discuss various offseason topics, among those being the decision to close spring practices and scrimmages to the public, Utah State opting in to the House Settlement, whether the Aggies will join the trend of hiring a general manager, potential rule changes regarding players faking injuries and a change in the portal window. Marner scores in SO to give Maple Leafs 4-3 win over Utah | Sports

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Mitch Marner scored the deciding goal in the shootout and the Toronto Maple Leafs beat the Utah Hockey Club 4-3 on Monday night. William Nylander, Calle Jarnkrok and Steven Lorentz scored in regulation for Toronto, and Joseph Woll finished with 30 saves. The Maple Leafs had lost three straight (0-2-1). Nick Schmaltz, Barrett Hayton and Michael Carcone scored for Utah, which had won four of it’s previous six games. Karel Vejmelka had 23 saves. Auston Matthews also scored in the tiebreaker for Toronto, and Clayton Keller tied it for Utah. Nylander and Jarnkrok scored power-play goals in the first period to give Toronto a 2-0 lead. Lorentz made it 3-0 at 4:48 of the second. Carcone began Utah’s comeback at 8:14 of the middle period, Schmaltz made it a one-goal game 49 seconds later, and Hayton’s power-play goal tied it with 7:49 leftin the period. Takeaways Maple Leafs: It wasn’t pretty, with Toronto scoring just once at even strength, but this was a big two points that pulled the Maple Leafs within two of Atlantic-leading Florida. Martinez, Falslev earn All-Mountain West honors | Sports

The Mountain West coaches and media honored two Utah State men’s basketball players in the end-of-season awards which were announced Tuesday morning. Graduate guard Ian Martinez was named to First Team All-Mountain West and sophomore guard Mason Falslev earned a spot on both Second Team All-MW and the MW All-Defensive Team. Utah State was shut out from the “of the year awards” for just the second time since the 2019-20 season. New Mexico’s Donovan Dent was named Mountain West Player of the Year with his coach, Richard Pitino, earning Coach of the Year Honors. San Diego State center Magoon Gwath garnered both the Freshman of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year awards. Boise State wing Javan Buchanan was named Sixth Man of the Year with Wyoming guard Obi Agbim earning Newcomer of the Year. Martinez led the Aggies (and is fifth in the conference) in scoring with a career-best average of 16.9 points per game to go with 3.4 rebounds, 2.8 assists and 1.0 steals. BOSTON (AP) — Sam Hauser made nine 3-pointers — seven in the third quarter — and finished with a career-high 33 points to lead the short-handed Boston Celtics past the Utah Jazz 114-108 on Monday night. Hauser’s hot stretch propelled the Celtics to a 23-point lead early in the fourth. The Jazz rallied to tie the game with 3:21 left, but Hauser’s final 3 with 1:20 left made it 112-104, and the Celtics hung on from there to win their fifth straight. John Collins scored 28 points and Collin Sexton had 16 for the Jazz, who lost their sixth in a row.
