Utah Hockey Club signs Alexander Kerfoot and Ian Cole to 1-year, $3 million contract extensions | Sports

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — The Utah Hockey Club signed forward Alexander Kerfoot and defenseman Ian Cole to one-year, $3 million contract extensions Wednesday. The moves follow the signing Monday of Finnish defenseman Olli Maatta to a three-year extension. Kerfoot has seven goals and nine assists in 61 games this season. The 30-year-old former Harvard player has 94 goals and 186 assists in 585 career NHL games with Colorado, Toronto, Arizona and Utah. One of the team’s rotating alternate captains, Kerfoot has played 406 consecutive games dating to Nov. 30, 2019, the fourth-longest active ironman streak in the NHL. Cole has a goal and 12 assists in 61 games this season. The 36-year-old former Notre Dame player has 35 goals and 171 assists in 887 career games with St. Louis, Pittsburgh, Columbus, Colorado, Minnesota, Carolina, Tampa Bay, Vancouver and Utah. George, Sarr help Wizards hand Jazz their 10th straight road loss with 125-122 victory | Sports

WASHINGTON (AP) — Kyshawn George scored 23 points, Alex Sarr added 21 and the Washington Wizards edged the Utah Jazz 125-122 on Wednesday night. Seven of the nine players used by Washington were in double figures, with Justin Champagnie coming off the bench for 17 points. Johnny Juzang scored 27 points and Kyle Filipowski had 23 points and 13 rebounds for the Jazz, who have lost 10 straight road games. Isaiah Collier finished with 19 points, six rebounds and six assists. Brice Sensabaugh scored 15 points but missed a 3-pointer to tie with a second to play. Takeaways Jazz: It was a second straight strong performance from Filipowski, after the rookie had a season-high 25 points against Detroit in the previous game. Wizards: Washington picked up just its 12th victory in the matchup of worst in the East vs. worst in the West before going on the road for the next two weeks.
