Kaser Thurgood, Emilee Skinner named CVMG Prep Players of the Week (Jan 13-18) | Sports

This week’s Cache Valley Media Group Prep Players of the Week features a familiar name and a newcomer to the award. Ridgeline guard Emilee Skinner won her fourth Girls Prep Player of the Week honors of the year with Bear River guard Kaser Thurgood being named Boys Prep Player of the Week for the first time. The Prep Player of the Week awards are presented by BlueSky Restoration and Center Street Grill. Thurgood scored a career-best 28 points for the Bears in their come-from-behind victory 54-53 win over West Field last week. That included hitting a trio of 3-pointers, his second-highest total of the season. He also tied for the team high in steals (two) and led the team in blocks (also with two). Skinner continued her dominance this season to help Ridgeline stay undefeated this season. She recorded her third and fourth consecutive 30-point games against Sky View and Mountain Crest, including a double-double against the Bobcats where she had 34 points, 12 rebounds and eight steals to lead the Riverhawks to victory. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander scores career-high 54 in Thunder’s 123-114 win over Jazz | Sports

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — Shai Gilgeous-Alexander scored a career-high 54 points and the Oklahoma City Thunder defeated the Utah Jazz 123-114 on Wednesday night. Gilgeous-Alexander made 17 of 35 field goals and 17 of 18 free throws to surpass his previous career best of 45 points. He also had eight rebounds, five assists and three steals. Jalen Williams added 25 points for the Thunder (36-7), who are tied with Cleveland for the league’s best record. John Collins had 22 points and 12 rebounds, Collin Sexton had 18 points and nine assists, and Walker Kessler had 17 points and 15 rebounds for the Jazz, who lost their fourth straight. Utah (10-32), the worst team in the Western Conference, hung tough throughout. Gilgeous-Alexander scored 23 points in the first half to help Oklahoma City take a 57-55 lead at the break. He scored 18 points in the third quarter as the Thunder took a 95-89 lead. Gilgeous-Alexander took a break to start the final quarter, and the Thunder led 102-99 when he checked back in. Utah State keeps winning through coaching and administrative changes | Sports

Most programs would not do well with the level of turnover Utah State has experienced, but the Aggies not only have managed their way through constant change, they have thrived. Jerrod Calhoun was the fourth coach hired in the past seven seasons by three athletic directors, including one in an interim role. And yet the Aggies won at least 20 games each year but one with four NCAA Tournament appearances. They are 17-2 this season with a recent though short-lived appearance in The Associated Press poll.
