Forsberg and Marchessault lead the Predators past Utah 4-0 | Sports

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Filip Forsberg and Jonathan Marchessault each scored twice, helping Juuse Saros and the Nashville Predators beat Utah 4-0 on Saturday night. Saros made 26 stops in his second shutout of the season and No. 25 for his career. Roman Josi had two assists for the Predators, who had dropped three in a row. Connor Ingram made 17 saves for Utah, losers of three of four. Saros and Forsberg, who leads Nashville with eight goals, have been the only bright spots for a Predators team that is just 5-9-1 on the season. Saros’ best save came at 2:57 of the first when he was able to kick aside a Nick Schmaltz chance just after Forsberg had given Nashville a 1-0 lead. Aggies improve to 2-0 with dominating 103-74 win against Charlotte | Sports

LOGAN, Utah — Graduate guard Ian Martinez scored a game-high 23 points and Utah State hit the century mark for the second time in as many games this season in a dominating 103-74 win against Charlotte inside the Dee Glen Smith Spectrum on Saturday afternoon. For Utah State, it is just the second time in program history it has scored 100-plus points in consecutive games to start the season along with the 2018-19 team. USU began this season with a 101-46 home win against Alcorn State on Wednesday. Martinez was one of four Aggies to score in double-figures as Utah State shot a season-high 57.6 percent (38-of-66) and dominated almost every facet of the game. USU outrebounded the 49ers by 11 (36-25) and had a 22-8 advantage in second-chance points. The Aggie reserves scored 47 points in the game as compared to just 10 for Charlotte and USU had a 60-32 advantage in points in the paint, not to mention a 22-0 advantage in fast break points. Utah State WBB drops another close contest | Sports

LOGAN – For the second time in this young season, Utah State surrendered a fourth-quarter lead and lost a close game that was within reach in the final minute of the game. Despite leading by six points with six minutes to play, and despite multiple heroic 3-point makes from Cheyenne Stubbs in the closing seconds, the Aggies would end the night with a 69-65 loss to Cal State Northridge. Stubbs finished the game with the team lead in both points (15) and rebounds (11), though oddly enough she wasn’t in the starting lineup. That wasn’t on purpose though. The starting lineups, which must be reported 15 minutes before the game by both teams, mistakenly marked freshman Taliyah Logwood as one of the starters instead of Cheyenne Stubbs. Although Stubbs was announced to the crowd as a starter, officials forced the senior guard to the bench for the opening tip with Logwood trotting out to make her collegiate debut and first start due to this snafu. “It wasn’t supposed to happen like that,” Brooks said. “I told our staff, we just can’t make that mistake.
